Dear Members, Partners, Supporters and Friends,
?
It is with a mixture of gratitude, a little sadness, and hope that I write. The UK Single-Family Association (UKSFA) was founded with a vision to champion the Single-Family Rental (SFR) sector, promoting its potential to deliver quality homes across all tenures and in all localities. From the outset, our mission was driven by a deep passion for creating sustainable and affordable living solutions for communities throughout the UK.
?
I am immensely grateful for the unwavering support, dedication, and commitment each of you has shown to the UKSFA. Your contributions have been instrumental in raising the profile of the SFR sector, highlighting its significance within the broader housing market. In a short period, we have made remarkable strides in advocating for the SFR industry, fostering collaboration, and influencing policy discussions.
?
However, it is with a heavy heart that I acknowledge the challenges we have faced. The Association of Rental Living (ARL) rebranded and asserted its position as the representative body for the entire UK institutionally/professionally owned and managed rental sector. This was further strengthened by the establishment of the ARL’s SFR Committee, whose respected and influential members represent a substantial part of the SFR sector in the UK. Consequently, the UKSFA board has made the difficult decision to merge with the ARL, recognising that a unified voice is essential for the future of the SFR sector.? I urge you to support the ARL in this endeavour.
?
Despite this transition, my commitment to the SFR sector remains steadfast. I am to take on the role of Special Advisor to the ARL on SFR matters. In this capacity, I will continue to advocate for the unique needs and opportunities within the SFR market, ensuring that our vision for high-quality, accessible, and sustainable homes endures.
?
The UKSFA, in its brief existence, has significantly elevated the conversation around SFR. We have demonstrated its critical role in addressing the housing crisis and provided a platform for dialogue, innovation, and progress. This legacy will continue within the ARL, where our insights and experiences will contribute to broader and more impactful advocacy for the entire rental living sector.
?
To this end, I hope to advance with the ARL some of the ambitious plans we intended to implement with the UKSFA.? One such initiative is TF2.? (Taskforce 2), which aims to build upon the work of the original 2013-2015 PRS Taskforce, enhanced by the considerable dynamic that SFR brings. The wider industry, especially the British Property Federation, has been supportive of us in this effort.
?
Thank you for your trust, support, and shared commitment to making a difference. As we move forward, I remain passionate about the potential of SFR to bring forth homes that cater to diverse needs and enhance our communities. Together, we will continue to drive positive change and work towards a future where everyone has access to a home they can be proud of.
?
In terms of a more full time ‘what next?’ I honestly don’t know. I’m 65 this year and the sun is beginning to set. To quote a line in Monty Python’s Life of Brian “My legs are grey. My ears are gnarled. My eyes are old and bent”. ?I shall take some time out and think about it.?
?
Yours sincerely and thank you.
?
