Personal Sharing: 5 Ways of Adaptability
5 Ways of Adaptability
To be ready to compete in this world and stand out among others, we must have high adaptability. What exactly is adaptability? Quoting from the Bangkit Bangkit's deck, adaptability is the ability to learn flexibly and efficiently and to apply that knowledge accross situations. An interesting analogy for adaptability is the mimicry ability of chameleon. Chameleon can adjust the color of its skin according to where it is placed. Through this article, I would like to share 5 ways of adaptability that I learned and applied at Bangkit.
Ways of Interacting
Interacting is an important thing that we always do as long as we breathe. When we need food, we have to interact with food vendors. When we need a job, we must interact with the company's HRD during an interview. In the process of interacting, of course the main challenge is the diversity of personalities that may be encountered. Starting from the difference in age, language, way of communicating, to the communication media used.
In my experience while participating in Bangkit, I need to adapt to Bangkit's environment which uses English as the main language. I need to adapt to this by deepening my knowledge of English, having the courage to speak English, and often practicing listening to English conversations. With this adaptation effort, my learning process at Bangkit becomes easier. If only I don't immediately adapt to the use of English, surely I won't be optimal while studying at Bangkit.
Ways of Achieving
As a form of independent study program, Bangkit provides clear goals and a good set of norms to guide its participants in achieving their respective goals. One of Bangkit's main goals is to produce high caliber technical talent. This big goal must be balanced with the awareness of its participants. When I feel lazy or bored while doing my job at Bangkit, I try to remember this noble goal so I can be motivated and excited again.
Not only great purposes, Bangkit also has a set of norms such as maintaining polite and ethical communication, procedures for attending online meetings, and several other norms. Of course, as a member of Bangkit, I have to adapt to this norm. Because by adhering to these norms, the purposes previously set by Bangkit can be achieved with maximum results.

Ways of Learning
Bangkit in the first place has provided complete learning resources, excellent mentors and instructors, as well as an adequate platform. But is that enough? It could be yes, it could be no, depending on one's ability to absorb knowledge and learn. This is where adaptability is needed to complement what is lacking in the learning process in an environment.
For example, while studying Android Development at Bangkit, there are a number of things that I think are incomplete in the course given. Does that mean I have to force Dicoding as the course provider, to overhaul the course? I don't think that's the best approach. I'd better learn to take advantage of the discussion forum features, ask mentors, and of course, do personal searches on the internet. Adapting in these ways made me gain more knowledge.
Ways of Working
In working, of course a company or organization has its own way. For example, Bangkit directs its participants to give 8 hours a day to complete their responsibilities as Bangkit participants. Bangkit also implements a flexible online learning system. To keep up with the demands of an 8 hour day, I use tools like Bangkit Calendar to stay on track and take breaks when I start to feel bored and stressed. I also tidied up my living room so that I can be comfortable studying from home and remain professional when I have to attend online meetings.
Ways of Thinking
Last but not least, how we regulate our mindset greatly determines our self-development. In one of the soft skills learning sessions at Bangkit, I learned about growth mindset, a mindset that doesn't limit itself to conditions but is open to opportunities and continues to grow. Some of the ways that I have used to build a growth mindset during the process with Bangkit are trying to complete additional challenges given by Dicoding in the final project, constantly trying to find solutions for bugs in my Android program, and not giving up when my submission is rejected.
