Personal Life, Meet Professional Life

In the intricate balance between the personal and professional, it often feels like they're on a collision course. We frequently discuss the importance of setting boundaries and keeping these spheres separate—a philosophy I wholeheartedly endorse...most of the time.

Within my professional life, relationships stand out for me as a key factor in my success. I simplify much of my role to a fundamental responsibility: ensuring people have what they need to thrive. Sometimes it's about the right team member, software, or a height-adjustable desk, but more often than not, it's nuanced. I take pride in understanding my colleagues beyond the walls of the firm, learning what success means to them and how I can contribute to it within those walls. And, in that process, I share glimpses of who I am outside those walls.

Two recent interactions reminded me of the thoughtful, generous, and genuinely good people I'm surrounded by at work. On an ordinary Monday, what began as a work-related evening at a hockey game with a vendor and colleagues transformed into my son's inaugural Leafs game—with seats better than any I've ever sat in. I (literally) looked down on him and my husband, watching them smile and cheer, all thanks to a partner who offered me seats, knowing I couldn't personally use them. And then, a truly lovely colleague treated my son to a souvenir, just because.

These individuals, with whom I share my professional life, have had a profound impact on my personal life because we've invested time in getting to know each other.
