Personal Leadership Growth

Personal Leadership Growth

PERSONAL LEADERSHIP GROWTH

So, let’s talk about leadership development and two seemingly unrelated ideas:

  1. It is hard to witness good leadership and adopt the practices as your own.
  2. Everyone leads differently because of our uniqueness.??

It took me years of pondering why I could not learn leadership tactics from other leaders, despite the fact I was learning from bad leaders all the time.

Finally, about 5 years ago I had an epiphany: I cannot emulate good leadership examples because I am NOT THOSE LEADERS.

Leadership is unique to the individual.??

When you witness good leadership, your challenge is to figure out how to have a comparable impact in a manner that aligns with your values and skills.

Here are some ways you can start growing as a leader:

  1. Read, read, read.
  2. Discuss leadership with others (my personal favorite).
  3. Observe other leaders.
  4. Enroll in courses and/or workshops.
  5. Join regional leadership groups.
  6. Stay connected.
  7. Examine your mistakes and learn from them!
  8. Contact me at [email protected]!!

Regardless of how you choose to grow as a leader, you need to keep in mind that you cannot lead like others, just like they cannot lead like you.??

You have to embrace your values and skills in order to become the best leader you can be.? When you try to lead like others, it feels artificial and is not comfortable.

??Being yourself will make you a better leader.
