A Personal Invitation To A Gathering

The same message 9 times on Linked In got zilch sign-ups.

It was sent to contacts that follow me and subscribe to other social media content I produce.

9 times. Nobody raised their hand.

So I got more up close and personal.

I built a list from recent conversations and ongoing colleagues that came to mind. I sent a personal message out to each of them, individually out of my Outlook e-mail. There were 13 on the list. Eight of them elected to join me for the virtual workshop.

Do the math.

Linked In

  • 2583 contacts
  • 9 exposures to the invitation.
  • ?No takers

Individual personalized messages

  • 13 contacts
  • 1 exposure to the invitation
  • 8 Sign-ups (61.5% conversion rate)

That was for a presentation in June. I decided to just let my fingers do the walking through my CRM and send the same message out to another 12 people plus the ones that didn’t respond to my first message. Out of a total of 25 folks contacted if I could convert even 50% the event would become very profitable.

The point is this:

Entrepreneurs, like us, are trying to use Linked In to get people involved with their product or service. But most folks like you and me are not responding to the chatty approaches wrapped in praise based on zero real research.

People respond to those they know, like and trust when thy receive a personalized message.

The Takeaways:

1.???A contact is not a customer.

2.???Personal messages get through.

3.???Always ask more than once.

Stay Credible by sticking to your clients, friends and colleagues list. Credibility leads to Cash.

Funny how so many of the folks I met so briefly through that marketing event all those years ago are cycling back into my world. Hope you're well. I'm loving this post since most of the folks who are currently reaching out to me to be connections or friends (on another platform) send me offers as soon as I respond. I like to take a little time to get to know my contacts before determining if I have something to offer them. I don't just connect and sell. The first takeaway rang a bell with me like Notre Dame - a contact is not a customer/client! Keep up the good work and I'd love to reconnect sometime.
