Personal interest to meet business objectives

Personal interest to meet business objectives

Personal interest should be deployed to automate business processes. Electricity and electrical appliances are so convenient, it is almost essential to have these days. Electricity is simple, efficient and largely operates unobtrusively. There are many principles that businesses should draw from electricity and electrical appliances to benefit business processes. I shall discuss how the principles of electricity should be deployed in conjunction with personal interest to attain business objectives.

?

Never carry water down a mountain, let gravity do it for you.

No need to manually crush rocks, leave this to electricity.

Don’t row over an ocean, deploy mechanics for this purpose.

Never manually pump water, let a windmill do it.

Save fuel by using the kinetic energy of a vehicle in motion.

?

Gravity, electricity, mechanical forces, wind and kinetic energy are all forces driving the attainment of an objective. By deploying these vices, one automates processes. Automation has the benefit of processes being self-driven with a reasonable degree of confidence that the objective will be attained.

?

Basics of electricity

?

An electrical appliance best demonstrates how personal interest could be deployed to automate processes, thus ensuring attainment of the objective. For this reason, one needs to understand the basics of electricity. I shall now, at the risk of over-simplification, briefly explain the basics of electricity.

?

At its core, electricity consists of amps, volts and ohms:

-??????? Amps is the unit of measure for the volume of electrical current flowing through a wire;

-??????? Voltage is the measurement for the pressure that drives the electrical current;

-??????? Ohms are the measurement for the resistance to the electrical current running through a wire.

?

In an electrical circuit, the amperage in the high voltage of the live wire is driven to the low voltage in the neutral wire. As the current runs from a high voltage to a lower one, the current meets resistance. The latter is measured in Ohms.

?

How electricity powers electrical appliances

?

In most instances, an appliance has a plug which has three wires (noting that different countries have different colour codes for wires):

-????? A brown / red wire: which is the live (high voltage) wire;

-????? A blue / black wire which is the neutral (typically zero voltage);

-????? A white / green and yellow wire, this is the earth / ground wire (which should be zero voltage).

?

With an electrical appliance (oven in our example):

-????? Wire 1: The live wire running from the electrical plug is connected to the one part of the oven’s heating element.

-????? Wire 2: The neutral wire running from the electrical plug is connected to the other part of the oven’s heating element.

-????? Wire 3: The earth wire coming from the electrical plug is connected to the body of the oven.

?

The live wire and neutral wire complete the electrical circuit. Only these two wires are necessary to heat the element. The earth wire normally carries no electricity.

?

?

?

?

When the oven is turned on, then the live high voltage current runs through the oven. Electrical current always move from high to low. Thus, the high voltage current of the live wire will always attempt to move to the low voltage current of the neutral wire. However, the heating element of the oven is in its way. The live high voltage current has to go through the heating element of the oven to get to the neutral low voltage electrical current. When it does so, it heats up the heating element of the oven. If a person runs from one side of a turn-style to the other side, he / she will inevitably swing the turn style. He / she cannot move through the turn style without swinging it. In the same vein, the live high voltage electrical current will inevitably heat up the heating element of the oven when it moves to the neutral low electrical current.

?

Deploy Personal interest to achieve business objectives

?

In summary, what electrical technologists have done, were to insert an appliance in between the high voltage current and low voltage current. As high voltage current moves to low voltage current, it drives the electrical appliance. Through this, the appliance fulfils its intended purpose for example, heat up a microwave, stove, kettle, air-condition etc.

?

In order to distinguish between the personal interests of one and that of others, the former will be referred to as goals and the latter as personal interests.

?

?

The high voltage electrical current is a person infused (charged) with high wishes, ergs and desires (personal interest). Low voltage electrical current is the objective /attainment and fulfilment of the personal interests. This might be a person who, for example, wants to (high voltage electrical current) render public transport services; become a medical doctor; be promoted; increase brand awareness etc (low voltage electrical current).

?

Like electrical technologists, in order to attain one’s own goals, all one has to do is to install appliances (business objectives or life goals) in between the person and the attainment of their personal interests. The insertion of goals and objectives in between the person and their personal interests is already occurring on an everyday basis. Examples of these include the following:

?

First example: A person wants to (high electrical current) render public transport services (low electrical current). The government on the other hand, wants to improve road safety (goals / objective). Government, in order to attain its objective, it introduced the requirement that a person must have a driver’s license in order to legally drive a vehicle on a public road. This is only obtainable after having passed the training requirements for safe driving. We are leaving aside whether this training and rules around it are good enough to meet the goal / objective of safety on roads. Save to say, it demonstrates the insertion of goals / objectives in between the person and their personal interests.

?

Second example: A person wants to (high electrical current) become a medical doctor (low electrical current). The public has an interest therein that medical doctors perform their work with a high degree of skill and diligence (goals / objective). What government has done is to introduce three key requirements. The first, that a person who wishes to practice medicine, must firs obtain a medical degree from a recognised tertiary institutions. Secondly, the person must first render 2 years of free community service (called internship). Through this, government is obtaining health services at minimal costs. Thirdly, in addition, in order to retain the right to practice medicine, such a medical doctor must acquire a license and then retain such license to practice medicine. This license to practice can be revoked should a medical doctor render a standard of service which is below what is required of him or her.

Again, we are leaving aside the question of whether this system applies efficiently and or as intended.

?

Third example: Even LinkedIn applies the principle of having inserted their goals / objectives in between the users and their respective personal interests. LinkedIn has identified that there were professionals with the personal interest to enhance their professional reputation, increase their brand exposure, increase traffic to their websites, connect with likeminded professionals etc. conveniently, cost effectively, and efficiently. It thus created a virtual LinkedIn platform (the appliance) through which professional could achieve their personal interest on a cost effective basis, conveniently and efficiently. People are required to register to use the LinkedIn services for free. Persons have to pay a monthly subscription fee to use the more advance features of LinkedIn. Thus, LinkedIn achieve their goals / objectives of having created a virtual platform for professionals to connect and LinkedIn generating profitable returns in the process. As an added bonus, revenue is generated by screening ads.

?

Fourth example: Many persons yearn (high electrical current) for prestige (low electrical current). They associate brands with prestige. If one wants to generate revenue, create a brand that is associated with prestige, and these customers will automatically come to your door.

?

Fifth example: If the objective is to make a difference in communities at little costs, personal interest can assist.? Most people yearn for recognission. If one creates a platform where people can offer their services for free; on a regular basis, the national volunteer of the month is nominated, and the successful candidate is advertised on a very public forum, one will have no shortage of volunteers. Further, one cans monetise this opportunity by tapping into another personal interest: the interest of businesses for marketing.

?

?

?

It would be noticed that in all five examples, neither the government, LinkedIn, business person, nor philanthropist is paying the persons to render public transport services, become a medical doctor, register on LinkedIn etc. There is no force applied to any person to bring about these effects / outcomes. It is self-driven and applies automatically.

?

Persons with personal interests are forever present. There is never a shortage of wishes, urges and desires (personal interests). There is and will always remain personal interests such as the need for better, bigger, faster, better, more stylish, happiness, joy, peace, luxury, relaxation, treats, more efficiently, faster, entertainment, trendier, comfort, convenience, efficiencies, affordability, reliability, better health, greater, louder, cooler, more, recognising, reputation, accolades, more exclusive, more elite, less stress, fulfilment of needs, wants being met (actual or perceived) and the list is endless. Look all around and you will find it in all walks of life.

?

Whatever one’s goals / objectives are, personal interest could be deployed to achieve same. All one has to do, it to interject your appliance in between the person and the attainment of the personal interests. The sole requirement is to ensure that your appliance(s) is the only viable, convenient, cost effective, reliable and suitable alternative (actual or perceived) to achieve their personal interest. If this is done, the attainment of your goals / objectives will be self-driven and automated.

Business protection: electrical circuit

?

An earth wire is connected to the earth leakage in the distribution box. The latter is the big electrical box in a house. The earth leakage in turn is connected to an iron rod in the ground.

?

As mentioned above, an earth wire is a layer of protection. An earth wire will relay a short-circuit / fault on an electrical line to earth / GROUND. If there is a fault / short-circuit on the electrical wiring connected to the earth leakage, it will trip the earth leakage. This will cut the electricity to appliances connected to the earth leakage.

?

The distribution box has various circuit breakers. Each circuit breaker controls electrical supply on a circuit. Typically, there would be circuit breakers supplying electricity to plugs; circuit breakers supplying electricity to lights; circuit breakers supplying electricity to stoves, and others to geysers etc.

?

The live wire typically gets its electrical current from a circuit breaker. If there is a fault on an electrical circuit and it meets a specified threshold, the specific circuit breaker will trip. This will cut electricity to all appliances on this specific electrical circuit. Importantly to note, it does not disconnect the electrical supply of the whole house.

?

Normal business operation is the electrical current on the live wire and neutral wire working well in tandem to attain the business objectives. However, as with electricity, business plans, processes and objectives do not always go according to plan. When it derails, it threatens the business operation. These threats must be dealt with.

?

In the same way as an electrical circuit has built-in protective layers, so should a business be protected? The circuit breaker protects an electrical circuit against faults that meet a specified threshold. Similarly, a business will face high / major risks as well as low / minor risks. A business should be set up with built-in layers of protection to deal with both a minor and major faults.

?

This is where the risk management strategy of a business comes into equation. It tantamount to the circuit breaker and earth leakage of a business.

?

Both a circuit breaker and earth leakage are designed to detect a fault on its electrical circuit. It does not trip automatically. A circuit breaker and earth leakage only trip when the fault / short circuit meets / exceeds a specific threshold. Similarly, there is every day run of the mill challenges facing a business that could be dealt with at operational level. Thus, for example, if there is a small query with the pricing on an item, the shop assistant / casher can deal herewith. There is no need to activate the formal fault processes of a business. In equal measure, if a machine does not want to work, all the operator could do is to restart the machine which will hopefully dispose of the issue.

?

The risk management strategy of the business must be able to detect a fault. Once the fault had been detected, there should be the appropriate response to the threat / fault

?

A circuit breaker that trips, does not disconnect the entire electrical system, it only disconnects the electrical supply to appliances running on that specific circuit. Thus, if there is a challenge with ensuring that milk is always fresh, there is no need to shut down the entire store / business. One only has to deactivate / temporarily stop the sale of milk and the rest of the business continues unaffected.

?

Only if there is a severe fault on the electrical circuit will it cut the main switch. When the main electrical switch in the distribution box cuts, the entire electrical supply to the house is disconnected. Similarly, the entire business operation has to stop immediate if a severe fault had been detected. For example, all flights of an airway must be grounded immediately if it had been detected that there had been contamination of the jet fuel of the company.

?

With electricity, the protective mechanisms are built into the electrical system. On the same basis, the risk management system should be incorporated into the everyday operations of the business. It must run unobtrusively.

?

Circuit breakers are appropriately sized for the appliances that operate on that electrical circuit. Similarly, in a business, emergency and fault responses should be appropriate

For the possible risks that may possibly occur.
