Personal highlight from UNGA78
I cannot remember a more extraordinary moment in my career than lifting the roof of the United Nations?HQ during the #UNGA. And yet, we did just that thanks to the amazing teams at The Lede Company and PVBLIC Foundation .
Marking the occasion of our first billionth long-lasting insecticidal bed net, Team Vestergaard book-ended the #UniversalHealthCoverage?day to reinvigorate the global health community and recommit the world to accelerate efforts to combat malaria.
A billion is a significant number. It demonstrates what we can achieve if we work together. It is a milestone that deserves recognition of the pioneers, partners and champions who all have contributed to the fight against malaria and the most consequential public health campaign in the last 25 years.
But the fight is far from over. Half the world is still at risk of malaria. Funding has stagnated, mosquitoes have become increasingly resistant to insecticides, and the impact of climate change could accelerate the resurgence of malaria in many parts of the world. Every minute of every day, nearly one child dies from malaria - a preventable infectious disease.
This is a poignant reminder of the need for closer working relationships across the ecosystem and a renewed commitment to our shared mission.
It is with thanks to our Founder and Board Member, #Mikkel Vestergaard, whose interventions, more than 25 years ago, eliminated the need for frequent re-treatment of the standard mosquito net and brought one of the most cost-effective prevention tools to millions living in malaria-endemic countries.
We are grateful to our customers, partners and employees for their trust and support. We will continue to work hard to provide our customers with the best mosquito nets and services and make a difference in the world.
Thank you to our panel of incredible and inspiring speakers at the SDG Media Zone;?Hui Chuan Yang?with the?The Global Fund, The Honorable Dr.?Muhammad Ali Pate,?olivia ngou?with?CS4ME Médias,?Van Jones?with?CNN?along with?Amar Ali?and?Mikkel Frandsen?from?Vestergaard.
And thank you to the keynote speakers at our evening reception event Peter Sands , Executive Director of The Global Fund , @DrDWalton, U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator PMI Impact Malaria , Johannah-Joy Phumaphi , Executive Secretary of African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) and CharlizeT CTAOP .
I’d also like to recognise our creative team at Outlook Group for creating this beautiful film, shot on location in our Vietnam factories and during a mass distribution campaign in Uganda.
