FROM THE FOUNDERS

The hardest thing to do is admit you’re not happy.

What would you do if you seemingly had everything, but you just weren’t happy?

Alisha Fernandez Miranda ?faced this dilemma at the end of 2019 when she realized that while her job as CEO of I.G. Advisors , her husband, and her children were all incredible, she just…wasn’t happy. Something had to change.

After a night with friends who encouraged her to pursue her dreams, Alisha decided to take a sabbatical to become, of all things, an intern. She would start on Broadway, her dream workplace, and then keep exploring, one internship at a time.

And then the pandemic hit.

Alisha’s story isn’t unusual, though having to find internships during 2020 certainly made it unique. Many people just like Alisha put business success in front of happiness until their lack of happiness becomes too loud to ignore. Then they have to figure out what?would?make them happy, and often they’re starting from square one.

Viewing your life through the lens of what makes you personally happy sounds a lot easier than it is. Maybe you’ve spent too much time making other people happy, or maybe you have always assumed that you’re already doing the thing that makes you happy. No matter what, this new lens can make things worse before they get better.

When we build an arc, the most important thing we want to know is if you’re living the life you really want to live. If you are, we love helping you continue to make that happen. If you’re not, we can help you figure out how to build a whole new arc.

Alisha went from Broadway to an online Zumba studio to a London art gallery and wrapped up her internship experience at a luxury hotel in Scotland. Along the way, she was able to focus on the things she knew she loved, like her husband and children, and find new things that made her happy, like writing. Alisha’s arc now looks completely different from the one she had at the end of 2019, but she’s never been happier.

Sometimes you need a smack in the face from life—like a pandemic or the loss of a job—to get you onto your true arc. Other times, you just need a little nudge.

Consider this your nudge.

PS - Alisha wrote about her experience as an intern in?My What If Year, which was released earlier this year from Zibby Books.?You can order a copy here.
