A Personal Experiment in Facing Discomfort
Hello,
I wanted to share a little update from my life. I’m about to embark on a personal experiment—moving to a new place, actually a small village, and staying there for a few months. This decision came from the feeling that I've been too comfortable lately, and that comfort might be keeping me a bit stagnant. I’m not expecting anything specific from this time away, but I’m open to whatever it brings.
I know this journey will likely challenge me—especially my cooking skills! It might stir up some loneliness, boredom, or other feelings I can’t even anticipate yet. But what excites me about this experiment is that it just feels right on an intuitive level. It’s an opportunity to see myself in new circumstances and get a glimpse of how I show up when I’m outside my comfort zone.
Recently, I was chatting with a friend about how much of the growth we’re seeking lies on the other side of our discomforts—and how often we avoid those discomforts, both consciously and unconsciously. For me, this experiment is a chance to face some of those discomforts I might otherwise bypass in my day-to-day routine.
As a coach, I often work with people to identify and move through the fears or discomforts they’re avoiding. Now, I’m giving myself that same invitation—to step toward what feels a bit uncomfortable and see what it has to teach me.
I want to extend that invitation to you, too. Is there a fear or discomfort you might be avoiding that’s quietly holding you back from your best self? If something comes to mind, maybe consider creating a small experiment of your own to face it before the year ends. Stepping into 2025 with that growth could be incredibly rewarding.
And remember, if a particular fear or discomfort feels deep or overwhelming, it’s perfectly okay to seek support. Facing our fears doesn’t have to be a solo journey. Often, addressing what we’re avoiding brings us closer to our potential—and to the gifts that lie hidden beneath.
Wishing you strength, courage, and the support you need to face what’s calling to you.
With love,
Arjun
