Personal Digitial Ecosystem

Over the last several weeks, I have pondered about personal digital ecosystems in the industry and who is the market leader and why? Apple has the most notable ecosystem with products such as the iPhone that integrate beautifully with services such as iMessage, iCloud, Music. In addition, they also integrate with hardware as seen with the AirPods and the W1 chip the most well-known marketed feature of the Apple ecosystem. According to the personal market share, Apple is on the top with minimal end to end solutions. On the other hand, if I look at Google they have the upper hand with better continuity with their services that have an end to end solutions. Their usability among all sorts of devices is much different from Apple’s ecosystem where you have to use Apple products to get the best out of the software of the ecosystem. The services below show the depth and amount of entities used to construct the Google ecosystem.

  1. Gmail: Help an individual to manage all communications
  2. Google Keep: To manage all notes, credentials, etc
  3. Google docs: Highly preferred by schools and students
  4. Google Drive: To store all the documents like a utility bill, scanned certificates, etc. which can be easily accessed any time, anywhere
  5. Google Photos: One of the best apps which automatically backs up photos from mobile, upload old photos, tag individual name along with the ability to search by context, location, name, background environment (like water)
  6. Google hangout/Duo: For video and audio conference between multiple users
  7. Google Home: Smart speakers to interact and control?real devices like Nest, TV, Thermostat, bulbs, etc.?
  8. Google Maps: Navigation along with real-time traffic conditions and recommendations
  9. Google YouTube: entertainment for all ages, paid movies
  10. YouTube Music: Still a baby but with strong potential to earn monthly subscription if they can expand beyond music like motivation speech,
  11. Google books: Enable audiobooks through google home devices
  12. Google Fi: Telecommunication service which competitive plan along with free international roaming
  13. Google Finance: To track your favorite stocks along with relevant news to enable strategic investment decision
  14. Google Pixel Phone: Though late in the market, Pixel 4 has proved with it dominant camera and photography experience. It is catering to every individual financial status.
  15. Google Fit: With the acquisition of Fitbit, it will be able to accelerate innovation in wearables, scale faster and make health more accessible

In Spite of great services with well-made hardware, why is Google unable to showcase their ecosystem the way Apple is able to? Is it that the end-user is unable to understand the end-to-end use of the ecosystem? How if google roll-out -

  1. A single individual or family subscription plan which cater across all product lines example: Google one for youtube, movies, books, storage?
  2. An impactful ad. which demo, how the google digital ecosystem can be utilized for everyday needs from waking up to retiring for the day
  3. Display demo of end to end personal platform at every mobile service provider like Verizon, at&t, etc.

Google somehow lacks the charismatic attraction that Apple has build over the years.
