Personal brands in action - Tyrone Reid

Personal brands in action - Tyrone Reid

The best examples we can ever give are the truest and most relevant. In my space as an Executive Coach and personal brand strategist, we can all see generic examples of ‘how to do it’ and ‘why’ - usually using a celebrity or historically important leader as our inspiration..

This is why I want to get real - I want to showcase inspiration and highlight those people who are truly walking the walk regionally - the ideal examples of a personal brand in action - those I admire, and those I see as the embodiment of modern leaders.

The very first person who came to mind when I decided to write this series was immediate.

A man who impresses me constantly? - if you don’t know him already, meet Tyrone Reid

With an undeniable passion for people, innovation, and operational excellence, Tyrone has grown into strategic leadership roles where he has delivered exceptional results and best-in-class guest experiences, during his two decades of F&B, Retail and Hospitality experience working across the UK, Middle East, Turkey, Russia and Scandinavia.

In his most recent roles, Tyrone served as Chief Executive Officer of Alabbar Enterprises. During this time, he also supported Emaar in the region, bringing concepts such as Time Out Market to Dubai?and now as Group Chief Executive Officer at MMI and Emirates Leisure Retail

Why Tyrone Reid ?

It’s simple - who Tyrone showcases online, is exactly who he is in real life. A lesson that can be learned by many who try to embody a certain ‘look’ across the media and platforms in general, which often does not match the day to day leadership values and ethics.

There is a harmony between Tyrone’s online identity and how he speaks via his own social media channels and when in person - either face to face or representing the organisations he works for.

The perception a person may have of Tyrone when reading his thoughts online are cemented when you meet him or see him in real life, via the same language and tone.

I worked briefly alongside Tyrone at Emaar, and whilst we were working together to achieve a common task, I had no idea that he was the CEO of Alabar Entreprises at the time.

He was humble, approachable and insightful, and I later understood very easily why he was in an important leadership role.

Years passed, and we continued to stay connected via LinkedIn, and the language he continued to use was the same. He is who he is.

What Tyrone does well via his personal branding.

Tyrone has a canny ability to express himself online as though he is conversing naturally. It is never forced or created, but always expressive and meaningful to him. Tyrone doesn’t post generic platitudes that are to please a desired audience, but purely to involve them in his movements and insights into true thought leadership in action.?

Importantly, despite recently changing roles and companies, Tyrone's authentic personal brand essence has of course carried with him. He recently changed roles to Group CEO at Emirates and he is still the same person speaking, his personal brand essence is carried through irrelevant of status/title.

What we can learn from Tyrone about successful personal branding for CEOs and senior leaders.

We must never speak simply to ‘impress’. Authenticity is always key and by trying too hard to win over your audience, whether online or on a stage, you will fail. True personal branding comes from an ability to showcase you, and you only. Your personal brand is what sets you apart from everyone else, and is not just the preserve of CEOs and extroverts - is it time to understand how you can bring your unique essence to the table too?

Your brand is the story people tell themselves about you and their expectations about what you will be like when you walk into the room - regardless of whom you are based on the "standard social definitions".
