Personal Branding
Personal Branding is very important in this digital era. Your social presence plays a very important role. As Tim Ferris said
"Personal branding is about managing your name - even if you don't own a business - in a world of misinformation, disinformation, and semi-permanent Google records. Going on a date? Chances are that your "blind" date has Googled your name. Going to a job interview? Ditto."
So before you start working on your personal brand ask these questions to yourself:
- What am I passionate about? [what's that one thing you love the most.]
- What am I good at? [your skills]
- What makes me credible? [your experiences, learning etc]
- What are my personal brand goals? [more followers, more business, a better job profile etc]
Once you have answer to these, you are half way through as they will help you tell your story and establish you as a brand.
Next, keep in mind the 3 C's when you are telling your story:
- C: Character [You are the character of your story]
- C: Conflict [experiences where audience can relate to, it should leave them saying "I Know how that feels/ I have been through this/I'm facing this"]
- C: Conclusion [what you learned from struggle/how you solved the problem and how you are now equipped to help others]
And last, define your target audience:
- Research about your current customers [or personal brand your social connections, your peers, your stakeholders are the customers]
- Know your product or services inside out [your skill-set you need to be confident about]
- Create your buyer's persona [what your peers, stakeholders expect from you]
- Discover where your audience is on social media [so that you can directly engage with them, show what you have to offer, what you are working on etc]
