Personal Branding: Why it Matters
Many people today do not consider their internet presence to be important when it relates to potential job opportunities that could land them in the desired field they are seeking. Social media holds a grip on how companies conduct their business strategies as it relates to promoting their brand, but more importantly their search for potential candidates.
I examined my internet presence on a couple of different websites to check and see how I stack up. I began by conducting a search on WebMii.com and it left much to be desired. My visibility score was a 2.96 out of 10. However, I was able to find a little bit of information on myself that consisted of past articles from when I was in high school.
I then conducted a different search on another website called spokeo.com. This search was much more hopeful and made me feel as if I was not a complete ghost to the rest of the world. This website actually previewed more information about me than I thought it would. It displayed my age, my hometown, the names of some relatives as well as a few other details about me.
I then tried to search myself on careerblast.tv but was unsuccessful as the website would not load properly and confusing to use.
Overall, this quest to find out about my online presence was definitely an eye opener as it taught me that I need to be more engaged with this aspect of my career development.
