Personal branding : The three key words

The professional social networks compel us to communicate about ourselves:

  • How to avoid demeaning ourselves?
  • How to be sure to be considered as a professional in our field of expertise?

The goal of this article is to answer these two questions in three points.


The legitimacy

Every experience and every project you have achieved has to demonstrate your legitimacy for the position you have or the one you want to have.

Sometimes, you have to reread your experiences in order to show that you actually have the track record that makes you legitimate.

My piece of advise: The legitimacy starts with your ? headline ?, that is, the title of your LinkedIn profile or your CV. Do not indicate that you are looking for a job, an internship or opportunities: this would demean yourself and present you as a student, an unemployed or a troubled employee.


The commitment

It means that:

  • You believe in the project that you want to achieve
  • You are passionate about this project
  • You are driven by your job
  • You have values in the position you hold

You are a committed professional and that is why your customers, your suppliers, your colleagues or your shareholders can trust you.

My piece of advise : Share your values in your summary.


The vision

We can be an excellent committed professional… from the past:

  • Are you a professional able to drive a coach or hydrogen cars?
  • Are you the person from the past of from the future?
  • Are you the person who will slow down the transformation of my company or hasten its transfer?

Your vision of your job today and tomorrow can demonstrate to your interlocutors that you are the professional committed to the future, the one who will help them predicting the future.

My piece of advise : Communicate about your vision or the one of your company. Demonstrate that you are capable of imagining the future. Tomorrow has to be invented. It cannot be built with recipes from the past.


Conclusion

The goal of personal marketing is to help you reaching your goals by valuing yourselves through a digital communication built around those three key words: legitimacy, commitment, vision.
