Personal branding is simply what shapes the perception of one in the eyes of the public. It’s about building your reputation, creating an image of yourself for the outside world, and marketing yourself as an individual.
You might be looking at starting your own business and not able to figure out how to present yourself online in order to put your best foot forward to land a client.
This has probably resulted in you reworking your personal branding, yet, got you thinking about what that should/could look like.
You’re not sure if there is such thing as injecting too much personality into your own branding or too much character that may overshadow your business value and distract your target audience from seeing the value. I got it. When launching out from corporate America to self-employment, it can be really hard work understanding the approach to finding your voice and creating a reputation that resonates with and attracts your target audience.
It’s not as difficult as it seems and in this blog, I will show you the secret to creating a personal brand for your business. As JeffBezos said, your personal brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.
You have a choice to actively manage your brand or leave it to chance. But when you intentionally build your personal brand, you will not only have the chance to tell your story as you want it to be told but also establish yourself as an expert and leader in your field. In the process, you will connect with your customers and clients beyond your services alone.
There are some Entrepreneurs in the world of business who are very large. They’ve mastered the art of personal branding and know exactly who they are and what makes them unique.
An example is Marie Forleo whose personal brand is built around her personality; a motivational, and supportive attitude. Her personal brand is beautifully designed, has an authentic feel, and is all about encouragement for female entrepreneurs.
Other examples are Tony Robbins, Oprah Winfrey, Gary Vaynerchuk, and more. They all have a fan base and you’ll see that their personal brand plays a major role in their success. The personality they built or created makes them trustworthy, and memorable. They built their businesses around them as a person, which makes their business and person literally inseparable. Personal branding is their biggest asset. When you build your business around your personal brand, It will be hard for competitors to replicate you.
So, how do you build your personal brand?

Well, first thing first. Get clear on why you want to build your brand? What are you trying to achieve by creating a personal brand? When you find answers to these two questions, it will be easy to create a map of steps to take in creating your brand. What will you get from this? You will gain visibility and build trust in your target market, in other words, you will not need to hustle to find your target audience, they will come to you.
When you build a strong personal brand, you will humanize your business and you get the opportunity to develop stronger relationships with your audience which will lead to broader exposure.
People are naturally interested in other people and their stories, so tell your story.
The second important approach to creating a personal brand is your performance and image. This two will enhance the success of your brand. It’s one thing to have a great idea or goal, it’s another to have an excelling performance that creates a reputable image that people are aware of and raving about. People need to know who you are and what you stand for. This will reflect in the quality of your work, and the content you put out there as a thought leader,
If you’ve started working on your personal branding, try to figure out where to improve. Understand your target audience, why you want to create a personal brand, how it will help your business, and what to do next to improve your personal brand.
More so, be certain that your work can deliver great results and be clear of what type of result your client will get that will be meaningful to them.
Thirdly, choose an online platform to connect with your target audience and create your fan base.
Be intentional with the content you put out there. Each content you write and post online is a puzzle to your personal brand. So you need a strategy to create a big picture of what you want
When you have one, it will keep you on track and help you get to where you want to go. It’s a roadmap that ensures that everything you do, fits into it.
