Personal Brand is about controlling your Narrative

Personal Brand is: How do people perceive you?

This perception is a combination of your abilities, skills, and attributes. Like, the way you dress; your personality; verbal and non-verbal communication; your voice; education, skills, and expertise; and how you present yourself on LinkedIn, resumes, interviews, and business meetups. It can be any of the combinations.

The purpose is to stand out and get noticed by your target (employers, clients, and customers). Meaning, controlling your story, your image, and consciously projecting and maintaining an impression you want others to perceive through techniques that are connected with your long-term objectives.

??For example, your signature dressing style.

Your communication style.

Your expertise in certain skills/areas which can help you get noticed.

Your voice can also help you stand out.

?? Think of different brands (Coca-Cola, Nike, BMW, Zara, etc.). Do you notice the similarity across all channels and in their customer experience? Same logo, same brand experience. This makes them unique and memorable.

?? So identify one or two factors that will help you stand out.

Important: ??

?? Not everybody is going to like or be attracted to your personal brand, and that should be okay. Why?

There are three reactions to your personal brand.

  1. Attraction: You want to attract only a relevant audience who resonates with you and will buy from you. Your clients, customers, and future employers.
  2. Repulsion: You want to repel people who are not aligned with your message, industry, or values. I am sure you do not want to work with all 8 billion people on this earth.
  3. Neutral: This is not something you want. The whole concept of personal branding is to be noticed by people. It is different from someone liking or disliking you. Even people who have no alignment with your personal brand should notice you.

So make your first impression, your personal brand, memorable.
