Personal AI Supercomputer, Moderation Simplification at Meta, Copilot Relaunch | Digital Drift

The beginning of 2025 has been quite ambitious and innovative. Despite the winter, January was hot in terms of technological announcements and even releases.

Moreover, some technological novelties caused a real boom.

At the same time, there were also controversial events that sparked a social media uproar and even a wave of criticism towards platform administrations.

As you can see, we have a lot to tell you in the January digest.

Want more juicy details? Keep reading the following sections!

Personal Supercomputer with AI

Supercomputers used to occupy entire rooms, if not entire buildings? That’s now a thing of the past. Nvidia announced a new generation of such solutions, comparable in size to the Mac Mini. Yes, at the CES exhibition, Jensen Huang announced preparations for the launch of its AI-based supercomputer – Project Digits.

  • The solution is based on the GB10 Grace Blackwell processor, which can interact with LLMs containing up to 200 billion parameters.
  • The speed of command processing and calculations is provided by 128 GB of coherent memory.
  • Data will be stored on NVMe drives with a capacity of up to 4 TB.

A petaflop of artificial intelligence performance, equivalent to a quadrillion calculations per second, Nvidia's proprietary DGX OS based on Linux, and an unlimited number of use cases for the computer. And all of this for just $3000 for the base version of the new product. Impressive?

Controversial Changes in Meta's Moderation Policy

Freedom of speech is a trend gaining momentum on most global social platforms. Communities rarely respond appropriately to any censorship by network administrations, but not this time.

Meta is changing its publication moderation rules and introducing a “community notes” system. The hate speech policy has been altered, with certain provisions removed, including:

  • the ban on referring to non-binary people as “it”;
  • bullying individuals for having mental disorders, non-traditional sexual orientations, etc.

The newly created mechanism will implement so-called public censorship, where the acceptability of posts and comments will be adjusted by community groups themselves.

At the moment, these changes apply only to the USA and do not alter moderation rules regarding harmful content, such as posts about suicide, etc.

And while this has caused significant opposition among some moral groups, Meta and Zuckerberg are currently not planning to change their approach to filtering information on the platform.

Copilot Relaunch for Business

Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is another attempt by the tech leader to push businesses to fully adopt the tool and start paying $30 per month for it. At the same time, it is a convenient and useful AI agent that truly simplifies the work for professionals across a wide range of fields.

Currently, this free iteration of the AI offers almost the full functionality of the regular version, but with some limitations. For instance, employees must manually upload files that need to be processed, analyzed, summarized, etc.

However, there is a catch — some features remain paid, and a bill is issued for their use, depending on the type of functions applied during the month.

The full version, on the other hand, integrates completely into the Microsoft 365 product interface, which somewhat optimizes workflows. The free version can also automate tasks, remind about certain actions, and generate content based on general or corporate data. What is this, if not an attempt to bind businesses with Microsoft infrastructure to its own GPT-4-based bot?

Space AI for Robots

Jensen Huang announced at CES 2025 the development of the basic AI models of Cosmos. Unlike regular LLMs, Cosmos learns from 20 million hours of video showing people walking, manipulating objects, and performing other movements.

According to Nvidia’s CEO, this AI model is designed to advance robotics and the unmanned transportation industry. Specially trained models will help build complex navigation and functional patterns for robotic systems. Moreover, some companies have already begun testing this innovation.

Logistics will benefit the most from the creation of Cosmos, as it can automate at least warehouse operations, and at most, entire transportation and operational chains. Although, in practice, this model can also be used in manufacturing or even at home.

Predatory Impulses of Elon Musk

Even despite the "Roman salute," far-right statements, attention-grabbing performances with controversial theses, and even dancing at Trump’s campaign rallies, Elon Musk still remains a highly successful tech investor.

  • SpaceX, Tesla, Starlink, OpenAI at one point, acquisitions of promising startups.?
  • The purchase of Twitter, plans for TikTok, and now Intel. I wonder, is he not eyeing Apple yet?

So, amidst Trump’s statements about plans to acquire TikTok in the US, Musk made remarks about his desire to buy Intel. Seemingly an excessive appetite, but in practice, it’s much simpler.

Musk’s major companies are dependent on software and chips, including those produced by Intel. Moreover, the conglomerate currently lacks a CEO, which doesn’t bode well for the business.

Is the chance of him acquiring the company realistic? Time will tell, but the hypothetical benefits for the businessman are already clear.

Apple's Home Hub as a Potential Top Release of the Year

What happens if you combine an iPad with a HomePod, add a new OS, and support for smart home devices? Apple's Home Hub could rival, if not surpass, similar solutions from Google and Amazon.

The reason is simple: according to rumors and insider information, Apple plans to transform its premium strategy and expand its device lineup with more affordable models.

The debut is set to be Home Hub, or a smart home management system with a 7-inch screen, the new homeOS, an intuitive interface, built-in Siri assistant, and Apple Intelligence.

Of course, there are some concerns about the device’s cost. However, theoretically, it would fall somewhere between the HomePod mini ($99) and the iPad ($449). In reality, the success of sales will depend less on the product’s price and more on its usefulness to the audience, particularly Apple tech enthusiasts.

Satellite iPhones

The release of iOS 18.3 brought several new features, one of which was quite unexpected even for fans who were following announcements and insider news. This concerns the satellite communication support for iPhones starting with the 14 series.

It seemed like nothing new? However, there is an innovation. Previously, satellite communication could only be used to send SOS signals when there was no network coverage in emergency situations.

Now, there will be the ability to:

  • send messages via iMessage;
  • make voice calls and video calls;
  • even connect to the network.

What really shocked fans was that Apple secretly collaborated with T-Mobile and SpaceX to add full Starlink support to the smartphones.

And on this positive note, we wrap up another edition of the AdvantISS monthly digest.

We hope that February will be just as eventful in terms of innovations and releases, so we’ll definitely be able to delight you with new insider details and interesting announcements.
