The Person You Were Meant To Be

Playwright George Bernard Shaw was asked on his deathbed,?“What would you do if you could live your life over again?” He replied, after a long pause,?“I wish I could become the person I know I was meant to be.”

I reflect on this quote just about every morning. It is part of my morning ritual and mental preparation. It keeps my awareness of continuous self-improvement alive and reminds me that today presents new opportunities to evolve toward the best possible version of myself.

Anne Lamott, an American novelist and non-fiction writer, said, We begin to find and become ourselves when we notice who we were born to be. The only problem is that there is also so much other stuff, typically fixations with how people perceive us, how to get more things that we think will make us happy. So, the real issue is how do we gently stop being who we are not and become who we were meant to be?

Being honest with ourselves about who we are, heightens our self-awareness and allows for a deep understanding of what we don’t want to change, where we hope to evolve, and why.

After a near-death experience, author and doctor Andrea Pennington realized that past conditioning was causing her to live an inauthentic life. So, she explored deep inside to learn who she indeed was. Now, finally living the life she was meant to live, Andrea shares three tips for being the person you were meant to be. 1. Learn who you are; 2.?Love who you are; and 3. Live who you are.

Let go of others’ expectations of you and embrace your uniqueness. Comparing yourself to others won’t help you become the person you were meant to be. Instead, what you need is a way to compare yourself to yourself.

Be yourself because an original is always worth more than a copy.
