“No person, no place, and no thing has any power over us, for 'we' are the only thinkers in our mind...

“No person, no place, and no thing has any power over us, for 'we' are the only thinkers in our mind...

... When we create peace and harmony and balance in our minds, we will find it in our lives."

– Louise L. Hay

Firstly, to clarify the title of this email: Peace, Love and Chicken is a term I used to say all the time when I was in middle school. What can I say? I've been hanging out with a LOT middle schoolers and high schoolers this week helping them write songs, so I feel like I'm embracing my inner middle schooler today. Ha.

ANYWAY, I digress.

If you've been watching my musical journey [especially over the past few years], you've probably noticed that I've been channeling some serious introspection into my music. My last Write a Song a Day challenge [back in 2021] led to my albums BORN IN CRISIS and I AM, as well as a documentary film of the same name.

Hold up.

If you didn't know that, here it is again:

ANYWAYs, my latest write a song a day challenge is a little bit different. The result? More songs of feeling healed, as opposed to searching for answers, and more... I'm going to say "exploration" of my genre. One such example is a track called "Harmony" that I'm eager to get into the studio for next week.

Catch a Glimpse at Hotel Zena

Before I dive into recording next week, there's a chance to hear some of what I've been working on. Swing by Hotel Zena tomorrow during the Women's History Month Cocktail Happy Hour. It's free entry, and we've got $2 cocktails on deck. I'll be sharing some of the new stuff live, including a bit of "Harmony."

But seriously.

This album's been a bit of a reality check for me in a slightly different way than my last two. It's highlighted how I've often put others' happiness above my own, sometimes [okay, way more than I would like] at the expense of my own health. These new songs are my way of recalibrating, making sure I'm keeping my priorities straight, and embedding my values into something tangible.

Which Leads Me to EXACTLY Why I Teach Songwriting

It's the same reason I work with teens on songwriting. It's a chance for them to articulate their own stories and truths, free from outside pressure. Their music becomes a personal manifesto. Their own mantras. Their truth.

And I LOVE that I get to do this kind of coaching here in the DC metro area., but you know what excites me even more? The fact that I'll be able to do this on a bigger scale THIS SUMMER in partnership with Hard Rock Cafe across 18+ cities

If you're curious about the new album, or you're just in the mood for some live music and good company, come down to Hotel Zena tomorrow. Besides the tunes [covers and original], I'll be sharing a bit about the upcoming Youth Empowerment tour and my next book project.

Hope to see some familiar faces there. Have an amazing day on purpose,

Emma G

P.S. Bring a friend to Hotel Zena tomorrow. Good music, good company, and tasty drinks - what's not to like?
