'PERSISTENT'? Exhibition opens in conjunction with Open Building for Resilient Cities Conference

'PERSISTENT' Exhibition opens in conjunction with Open Building for Resilient Cities Conference

PERSISTENT: Evolving Architecture in a Changing World

A+D Museum, Los Angeles, December 2018-January 2019

PERSISTENT introduces the history and contemporary practice of architecture that simultaneously endures and evolves with the vicissitudes of time. Crucial to persistent architecture is the design of buildings that last for generations while continuously adapting to shifting cultural needs. This exhibition argues for robust, sustainable, and resilient architecture that remains useful and valued despite the ever-changing world.

PERSISTENT deploys diverse media, including drawing, photography, audio, and video, to create a matrix of concepts, case studies, and quotes from practicing architects about long-term architecture. The exhibition juxtaposes these concepts and invites visitors to form and record connections between them as an integral and accumulating part of the exhibition that changes over time.

PERSISTENT is curated by the 2017-2019 winners of the AIA Latrobe Prize, and grows out of their ongoing research into Future-Use Architecture. The exhibit will host the Open Buildings for Resilient Cities conference organized by the Council on Open Buildings in December 2018.
