Persistence: Tale Two
Ma Brahmacharini is the goddess who is worshiped on the second day of Navratri.
After immolating herself in her previous life, Parvati was determined to marry Shiva in this birth as well. After following a path of severe penance, a pleased Lord Brahma finally appeared and granted her wish.
For her persistent penance, Parvati came to be known as Ma Brahmacharini derived from “Brahma†meaning penance and “Charini†meaning an ardent female follower.
