Introduction: The Power of Persistence

Navigating the world of entrepreneurship, building your business, fostering connections, and crafting your career trajectory can be intimidating. One certainty, however, stands out in this process: you are setting yourself up for failure if you lack persistence and consistency.

I often highlight this vital point in my client work: persistence is the bedrock of success. Countless pitfalls can lead to failure, but an absence of consistency is your downfall.

Not a Game of Luck: Business Building vs. Lottery

Let's pivot to a more optimistic perspective: consistency is the secret recipe to success. Sure, you may hear tales of those who just happened to strike it lucky or were seemingly at the right place at the right time. However, building your business cannot rely on luck—it's no lottery.

Indeed, winning the lottery is rare. So, why gamble your future on such precarious odds?

Case Study: The Rollercoaster Ride of Freelance Marketing

To better illustrate, let's journey through my encounter with persistence. A decade ago, I dipped my toes in freelance marketing. I was prepared—I completed courses, devoured countless books, and gained experience in various marketing agencies. Things kicked off well due to my preparation and initial successes.

In the freelance realm, there are periods referred to as "mountain periods" where consultants rake in substantial earnings within a short time frame, perhaps even a few months' worth of income within a month. I revelled in this, upgrading my lifestyle and celebrating my newfound wealth.

Yet, what follows a mountain? A valley.

Suddenly, the calls stopped, and the emails from prospective clients dwindled. I found myself in a "valley period," my income dwindling. I hadn't planned for this and had spent most of my previous earnings. I panicked, convinced myself that marketing consulting wasn't my path, sold my car, moved abroad, and left a potentially prosperous future behind.

Key Lessons: Understanding the Entrepreneurship Income Cycle

Firstly, entrepreneurship income is cyclical. Unlike the predictable salary of a traditional job, entrepreneurs receive payments at irregular intervals. The intelligent entrepreneur saves for the inevitable valley periods, while the novice freelancer might inflate their lifestyle based on temporary income spikes.

Secondly, persistence is the golden key to success. Even without the aforementioned mistakes, if you give up at the first sign of struggle or during a valley period, you rob yourself of the chance to discover that the valley is temporary and more mountains lie ahead.

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs: Don't Give Up at the First Sign of Struggle

For those of you embarking on the entrepreneurial journey, here's my advice:

Success takes time and effort. It might take months, even years. Every valley period, every failure, every setback is a chance to persist and push forward. If you surrender to these challenges, success will remain elusive.

Entrepreneurship is a long-term investment. Winning the game requires dedication, constant effort, and unyielding persistence.

So now is the moment to enhance your path through the strength of perseverance and consistency.

Ensure your future by not relying on chance but on your ability to remain committed. Accept the highs and lows, and consider each setback as a lead-up to the next triumph.

Focus on long-term goals, and your achievements will be your ultimate prize.

“Before success comes in any man’s life, he is sure to meet with much temporary defeat, and, perhaps, some failure. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and most logical thing to do is to quit. That is exactly what the majority of men do. More than five hundred of the most successful men this country has ever known told [me] their greatest success came just one step beyond the point at which defeat had overtaken them.”― Napoleon Hill,?Think and Grow Rich
