Perseverance
Yesterday, I assembled a computer desk which was by far, the most complex and time consuming assembly I have ever done.
During the assembly process, there were 3 occasions (given below) where I was totally stuck and thought of quitting. But since this desk was dead heavy (> 100 lbs) and if I had to return/replace this, I need to dismantle everything and return it in its original packaging which was almost next to impossible, I pushed on
1. The labels which identifies the parts was mistakenly swapped between two almost similar looking pieces. This led me to think, its a manufacturing defect and got stuck during my assembly. I kept trying to figure out a way to fix it and eventually figured out about the swapped labels.
2. I completed 50% of the assembly and while attempting a strength test, I accidentally pressed it too hard and the plywood on the base shattered and it collapsed from one side. So I had to fix it with some super glue, additional screws and duct tape.
3. 80% of the work was completed and I was trying to mount the drawers and that’s when one side was not sliding in nor I was able to get it out. I was totally stuck and started reading through reviews and assembly experience from other users. From there, I found about a lock in the side which gets stuck and it needs to be released manually for the drawer to slide in. Did that and it worked.
In life also, if you want to do/achieve something. The journey may not be smooth. Sometimes others can screw up things for you and sometimes you can mess it yourself or your lack of experience/knowledge can delay the desired result. But the point is to keep going. At the end, perseverance will surely pay off.
