A Perpetual Law of Marketing (The Setup)
A funny thing happened on the way to discovering a unique marketing position. I found myself.
Although the following is my sojourn, if you choose to take this road, it could be yours as well. The journey took several (long, long) months and what I found is priceless.
The Adventure Begins
“Every Adventure Begins By Taking The First Step”. Reading and listening to hundreds of hours of “marketing guru’s” spurious rules about marketing oneself I took the plunge on one of many concepts. What caught my attention was this idea: Ask your customers how they describe your services or products; and do it with three adjectives (descriptive words).
Sounds simple enough does it not? Not really. As a Voiceover Artist (my choice of word, here) slash Talent, asking others what they think of my services, was a challenge. I am actually an outgoing introvert.
Channeling my insecurities with the trademark of Frank Frederick “The Voice” tm has been a difficult proposition to live up to 24/7/365; but one must do what one must do. Personal marketing has a few immutable laws, one of which states: “It takes a long time to build brand reputation. That reputation can be destroyed in the blink of an eye if you fail to live your brand every moment of every day”.
I began this phase of self destruction subtly by asking my customers and clients how they would refer me to others in THREE descriptive words.
The Primrose Path Is Not Always Smooth
Let’s get this straight. I was not asking for a referral, nor was I asking for false praise, just the truth – good, bad, and ugly. I got it all. Talk about a wake up call.
The colloquy was amazing – really it was quite embarrassing to see how others characterize me. Three little words which came from my customers hearts. Those symbols of years of toil as a Voiceoverist were not always glowing, but they were honest.

If you decide to try this, be prepared for some deep soul searching. Seeing yourself with another persons eyes is revealing and humbling. Responses were more often than not three sentences, not individual words. It seems, expressive attributes are arduous for many people. Deciphering these judgments took some time.
Results Realized
Finally, I funneled the thoughts down to the 3 which would help get my personal message in front of potential and current clients and customers in the most expedient fashion. Appealing directly to the brain both visually and emotionally. Allowing people to “share the emotion of the words” (something I try to do each time I turn on the microphone in my professional home studio using only my voice) and the thoughts without having to think about what these words mean to them is the objective.
The payoff was quite amusing. My initials are F & F and the descriptors all began with P - (so, PPPFF) as you will now see:
Powerful
Professional
Perfect
Three words which have been a part of me are now articulated - - Powerful, Professional, Perfect – Frank Frederick “The Voice” tm.
Although my clients and customers have known these concepts of Frank Frederick’s voiceover talents I am hoping to share these with new advertisers, authors of audiobooks, television producers, businesses which need a voiceover for presentations, and those who have a need for my services. I hope you choose to discover yourself and your own unique marketing proposition by challenging yourself to discover how you are perceived by others.
All of these words are my story for my particular business. No matter what the business or service; the concepts are real, effective, and life changing when you are able to see what others see, in you.
