I have seen many first-time filmmakers make a common mistake that can prove costly and detrimental to their projects: not securing necessary permits and permissions. Many new #filmmakers tend to overlook the importance of these requirements, often resulting in production delays, legal problems, and even shutting down of the entire project.
According to #filmmaker, #StevenSpielberg "Getting permits is not an option, it's a necessity. Ignoring this aspect of filmmaking can lead to unnecessary legal problems and cause your production to shut down before it even begins" in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. This sentiment is echoed by many other filmmakers who have learned the hard way about the importance of securing permits and permissions.
One of my most favorite filmmakers, #AvaDuVernay, once said, "As a first-time filmmaker, you may be tempted to cut corners, but securing permits is not the place to do it. The last thing you want is to be hit with a lawsuit that could have easily been avoided." in an interview with IndieWire. She adds that it is important to research and understand the local regulations and laws related to filming in a particular area. I understand everyone wants to start out as gorilla filmmakers but it is
You want to be able to focus on the creative aspects of making a film, not on legal battles or fines. It's important to understand that permits are not just about following the rules; they also ensure the safety of your cast and crew. As a filmmaker, your top priority should be the well-being of your team." - #GuillermoDelToro once said in an interview with The Guardian.
It's important to remember that permits and permissions aren't just about avoiding legal issues. They also ensure that your production runs smoothly and without interruption. "When it comes to getting permits, communication is key. Reach out to the appropriate authorities early on, be transparent about your needs, and work with them to find solutions that meet everyone's needs." - #GretaGerwig, in an interview with Variety.

So what does all this shit mean?
In conclusion, not securing necessary permits and permissions can be one of the biggest mistakes first-time filmmakers make. It's important to do your research, understand local regulations, and obtain the proper documentation before starting production. By doing so, you'll avoid legal issues, unnecessary expenses, and ensure that your project runs smoothly and without interruption. As filmmaker #EdgarWright puts it "Don't assume that just because you're shooting a small indie film, you can get away without permits. You're not above the law, and the consequences of not getting permits can be severe." - , in an interview with Collider.
