Perils of Buying a Hypercar Build-Slot

Acquiring a Hypercar Build-Slot isn’t as easy as you may think. First, you need to find a genuine Seller; someone who’s prepared to sell-on his/her build-slot allocation and risk losing VIP Status with the manufacturer, or even worse, losing the car and deposit.

Then there’s the way it sold to the new buyer: is it legal? Does it breach the Manufacturer's terms and conditions.

Buying someone else's Build-Slot cannot be done through the manufacturer's Authorised Dealerships, although some dealers do this 'via the back-door' and such arrangements rarely give the Buyer any protection if something goes wrong.

Other Build Slots are sold through ’fly-by-night' Brokers, attracted to the Hypercar market by the lure of a quick money. Many of these are Chancers, who have a full-time job elsewhere and work from their Home in the evenings and on weekends. Most don't have a clue what they are doing, and without the proper structures and systems in place, it is easy to see how buyers could lose substantial amounts of money within minutes.

Then there are the matters of Legal Ownership, delivering the car to a different country from the original country of delivery by the manufacturer, and even the tax implications.

This is perfectly acceptable if you transfer a single payment on the day that you calculate the currency exchange, but if the sales process takes time, buyers can easily be caught out with currency fluctuations.
