Performance/Skill or Trust?
What is more important to you in the workplace? Someone excellent on the job but lacks integrity, or someone who sucks at what they do, yet is completely trustworthy?
In the workplace, performance or skill is about results. This can include revenue. Trust is about integrity, having other’s backs and keeping one’s work. Performance and skill can be measured in metrics. Trust cannot be measured in numbers.
What is more important to you? Who do you value more? Somebody you have total trust in or somebody who has a highly specialized skill? What if somebody is an expert on t he job but you don’t trust them? What is somebody is trustworthy but they have no clue about wat they are doing?
If you believe you are stuck with a highly skilled employe who you cannot trust, it is likely to catch up with you in some kind of betrayal, damage, or monetary loss. In some jobs you might be able to put a person who you cannot trust in a silo or working in isolation. For example a software developer might be able to work in isolation and work remotely from home, with no interaction with the rest of the staff. They can still leak the information to someone else, yet their one on one interaction with your staff is limited. Still, if you were given the choice, pick someone with less skill that you have to spend extra time training, versus tolerating a highly skilled “silo” employee who lacks integrity. They will haunt you at some point.
?It is easier to work on skill, than it is to work on trust. If you have an employee who needs improvement on their skill and is trustworthy, spend the time =, money, effort to improve their skills. It’s worth it, because they already have the trust factor ?in place.

Personally for me, I’d rather surround myself with people I can trust because I know the heavy price to pay when I have untrustworthy people aboard. I have been there. So have some of you. I’d say, go for the trust factor.
