Perfectionism is out! Authenticity is in!

Perfectionism is out! Authenticity is in!

Yesterday I was watching Dana Bentz's weekly "Two Cents with Dana Bentz." Her guest was social media consultant Eddie Garrison. The topic revolved around ways to engage clients through live video.

Two worlds crashing together...

1) Our Needs as Individuals: Our needs as individuals to engage live with others have continued however, in the era of COVID, those opportunities to meet physically have come to a screeching halt. These conversations were candid, free-flowing and frequently informative and we miss them. We need to engage as individuals.

2) Our Needs as Marketers: Engaging customers with traditional and digital marketing is more difficult than ever before. We still want our businesses not just to survive but THRIVE (you can learn more about this topic in my Amazon Best Selling Book, Restart).

In addition to traditional marketing, our current customers and prospective customers are being bombarded with digital marketing campaigns. Emails, pop-up ads, ads in search engine browsers are creating unparalleled "noise." We need to think of our customers as individuals and help fulfill their needs for candid, free-flowing and informative dialogues.

Perfectionism is out! Authenticity is in!

During the video interview between Dana and Eddie they discussed the fact that viewers of video content, especially live content, want authenticity.

It dawned on me that our starvation for physical, candid, free-flowing, and informative has led us to not only a tolerance for imperfect marketing engagement but an actual thirst for this live engagement.

As marketers we should provide free flowing, informative, imperfect engagement with our clients. Perfectionism is out! Authenticity is in! Create live videos where customers can comment with questions or observations.

It does take some time and energy to engage with clients via live video, but the results are invaluable! We do need to create engaging themes and not be "salesly." We need to follow a GIVE FIRST model. Think about content that helps your clients, the sales will come later.

Gather the appropriate equipment (good quality webcam, lighting, distraction-free backgrounds), have a reliable Internet connection and if we want to connect on as many social media platforms as possible use software such as Streamyard. Don't worry about perfection instead just be authentic. Create engaging content, and respond to their comments real-time or after your show.
