Perfect tool for victory: the Roman Gladius

Have you seen Captain Jack Sparrow’s swashbuckling swordplay in Pirates of the Caribbean? Do you watch historical movies where ancient armies clash metal on bloody battlefields?

What about Game of Thrones? Remember Ned Stark’s longsword Ice, forged with Valerian steel?

Think of the size and beauty of those formidable blades that wreaked havoc in enemy ranks.

The ancient Romans, however, were not great fans of the long and heavy swords that inspire awe in our minds today. Their sword was much shorter (and thus lighter), called the ‘Gladius’.
