Not Perfect and That's Okay!

Not Perfect and That's Okay!

No one is perfect, particularly this author. I have learned over the years that finding people who balance those flaws and have strengths in those areas I am weakest in are important for good teamwork and balance.

We are all on a learning journey and no one gets out of here alive. When you are putting together a team of individuals. Make sure that they are not all like you. Everyone has their own perspective and areas of expertise that help us get to a better decision, if we don't all think exactly alike.

Does someone make you uncomfortable? Ask yourself why. Is it a superficial judgment - hair color, style, etc. I encourage you to find the people that are different from you. This doesn't mean disregard all things that are important to you.

Identify the items that are non-negotiable and disregard the rest. For me, I want people who are honest, diligent, and sincere. I want intelligence and a willing capacity to learn. Most people we hire will never be an exact fit and know the tools that we are using. As long as they are smart and capable, I know that they will be able to figure out the environment and thrive.

By picking people that have different skill sets from me and may look different than me, but demonstrate that they have gifts to bring to the table, I put together a strong and diverse team.
