The Perfect Selfie

Have you ever taken a bunch of ‘selfies’ just to get that perfect shot to send to your partner or post online where you’re smiling just right amount, your hair is flicked just the right way and your makeup is flawless?

If that’s not enough you can edit this almost perfect shot with a special app to make us look flawless; literally flawless. Every single wrinkle is removed, chocolate brown tan, a twinkle in your eye; you can make yourself look like a runway model in a few magical taps on your phone.

A study by Curran and Hill of more than 40,000 people (American, Canadian and British) between 1989 – 2016 showed that the proportion of people who exhibited traits of perfectionism rose by 33%

The effects of holding unrealistic expectations of yourself are linked to people having a hard time coping, anxiety and depression.

In my years working with Bookkeepers to help them grow their businesses a few consistent themes come through when talking about scaling their business and hiring employees or contractors to help them out:

“They don’t do it as good or quick as me”

I get it, you don't want your reputation ruined by someone who doesn't hold your standard of work and care. Hiring great bookkeepers is your first step, then training them in your systems to make sure you feel comfortable is key.

Sadly, though this thought of "no one will do it as good as me" is what stops so many bookkeepers scaling their business and slowly removing themselves from doing the day-to-day compliance work to leading a team of Bookkeepers doing it for them.
