The Perfect "Job"

The Perfect "Job"

The Perfect “Job”

Jeff Bezos said:

  • "If I am happy at home, I come into the office with tremendous energy. And if I am happy at work, I come home with tremendous energy."

So, what would the perfect job look like for you?

Our “Job” is incredibly important to us. For many of us; it defines our identity, role and place in the world, provides our income/livelihood and from which we get our network, where we spend most of our time and gives us something to do.

As Dan Gilbert says we don’t really know what we really want and often stumble across life in a process of trial and error. Finding and being in the right “job” is often a case of stumbling into it because we often take a job and then may not find it right and move till, we find the right job/role and or employer.

For many of us, we were sold the dream of college, good job, work hard, get promoted, buy a home, get married etc.? We get the job, have some success get promoted/payrise etc and get into the trap of chasing the “money/promotions” like a dog being thrown a bone rather than have a vision for our own life.

Often, we find ourselves on the career treadmill or chasing money, promotion, power, status or fame until a life event causes us to re-examine our goals and motives.

At different times in our life, we look for different things and what we look for changes depending on our other life priorities and particular situation.

Too often we try to define a job in terms of function and or organisation and don’t really know what we really really want.

If we focus on attributes of any particular job in terms of the parameter below we would find it easier to know if a particular job or career choice is a good fit.
