Is ‘Perfect’ Good Enough? 6 Practical Tips to Help You Embrace Progress Over Perfection

Perfectionism is a common trait that many of us struggle with. Many of my clients often feel like they need to be perfect in order to be successful or happy, but the truth is that perfectionism can actually rob us of joy and prevent us from achieving our goals. Instead of striving for perfection, it's much better to focus on being comfortable with yourself, being authentic, having fun, and really enjoying the moment.?Perfectionism, fear of failure, fear of success, fear of rejection, fear of getting it wrong are various ‘learned responses’ that more often than not, come from our childhood or from authority figures whose approval we desired.? So it does not always serve us when it comes to relationships, work and our general approach to life. Perfectionism can be useful to strive towards an extremely high goal, however it usually comes at a cost. That is not to say, do things half heartedly, but approach ‘perfect’ with some room to manoeuvre if you need it. ?One of the biggest problems with perfectionism is that it can lead to procrastination. When we feel like we need to be perfect, we may put off taking action because we're afraid of making mistakes or not living up to our own expectations. This can prevent us from achieving our intended outcomes and living the life we want. We stay in our comfort zone.?Instead of striving for absolute perfection, you can choose to focus on being authentic and true to yourself. This means embracing your strengths and weaknesses, and being comfortable with who you are. When you're authentic, you're much more likely to attract people who appreciate you for who you are, and you'll be much happier and more fulfilled as a result. Many of my female clients have a tendency to be very critical of themselves and never feel that anything they do is ‘good enough’ or they are ‘not enough’. These thought patterns can sabotage almost all arrears of your life. So take a step back and check in with yourself. Does this sound like you or a friend??Another important aspect of letting go of perfectionism is to have fun and enjoy the moment. Life is short, and it's important to make the most of every day. Whether you're spending time with loved ones, pursuing your passions, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature, it's important to savor the moment and appreciate the little things in life.Being perfect (all the time) is not realistic, and it can actually prevent us from achieving a happy, fulfilling life. So I am all up for making things excellent and outstanding but without the ‘pressure’ of the word ‘perfect’. I like to choose ‘ideal’ or ‘excellent’ and that feels good to me so find what feels GOOD to you and roll with it baby.?

Striving for progress rather than perfection is a mindset that can help us achieve our intentions in a less stressful way.

Here are 6 practical tips to help you embrace progress over perfection:1. Set realistic expectations: It's important to set goals that are achievable and realistic. This will help you avoid feeling overwhelmed or discouraged when things don't go exactly as planned. Remember, progress is about moving forward, not achieving perfection.2. Take small steps: Break down your goals into smaller, more manageable steps. This will help you avoid feeling overwhelmed and make it easier to track your progress. Celebrate each small win along the way.3. Embrace imperfection: Accept that mistakes and setbacks are a natural part of the learning process. Don't be too hard on yourself when things don't go as planned. Instead, focus on what you can learn from the experience and how you can improve moving forward.4. Prioritize important work: Focus on the tasks that are most important and will have the biggest impact on your goals. Don't get bogged down by busy work or minor details that won't move you closer to your objectives.5. Practice self-compassion: Be kind to yourself and treat yourself with the same compassion and understanding that you would offer to a friend. Remember that progress takes time and effort, and that it's okay to make mistakes along the way.6. Celebrate progress: Take time to acknowledge and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. This will help you stay motivated and focused on your intentions.
