A Perfect Case Study - 1

A Perfect Case Study - 1

Year 1997.

I was about to complete 3 years in one of the TI Group of companies. The factory was located in Ambattur, I was owning the Accounts Payable department and the connectivity to factory was poor. The usage of computers is minimal (black/white screen) and definitely the efforts on manual work/bank reconciliation were more. The uniform provided by the factory was distinct and helpful in getting a lift in two / four wheelers. The journey from K K Nagar (Chennai) to Ambattur (Chennai) was not a good experience due to poor infrastructure. Much against my superior wishes and genuine advices, I resigned during the last quarter - though hectic but rich in experience - to join a private garment export firm. I completed two years of my marriage, lost my Appa in the year of my marriage and having a son born in September.

Year 1998.

The decision of switching the job was a disaster due to my maturity level and to some extent, the attitude of my perfectionist Managing Director. I was shuttling between office at T Nagar (Chennai) and factory at Ekkaattuthangal (Chennai). Of course, my immediate superior understood my situation and extended helping hand whenever required. But, it was difficult and tough to continue. At this moment, I heard about Oracle Financials from my friends. They encouraged me to take up the course for an one-time fee of INR 25 K. This can be recouped if one gets a job at the learning center after the completion of course.

After lot of thoughts, I decided to pursue with Oracle Financials (EBS, version 10.6). But, making up 25 K was not easy - as I need to support my family and my brother's studies. The LTA and PF savings from TI Group went directly for paying this course. I resigned my job for this 'about turn' career.

I completed the course, trying to understand the nuances of Oracle Financials, spent lot of time in the center (day/night). It was a nightmare to understand the Mass Additions (from Payables to Fixed Assets) process and we all were looking with awe when our tutor did that with ease every time.

I was not selected in the interview process and life had changed dramatically with all my savings siphoned out.

-To be continued.
