PERCUTANOUS SURGERY
Docteur Joel Vernois
Chirurgien Orthopediste, specialiste du pied et de la cheville
It is interesting how we are functioning. Into a specific formation, we absorb all the information that our master serves us, as gospel words. Our critical mind is spontaneously erased. We are embrigated in a unique way of thinking. And this is even more true when two professions share the same specialty. Foot and ankle surgeon for years, graduate from the French society of Foot & ankle surgery in 2002 after years of general orthopaedic surgery, I only discovered percutaneous surgery “accidently” 1 year later! When percutaneous technics are promoted since years with books and publication.
I just bought this book of Leonard Hymes, podiatrist surgeon. I am really impressed. Published in 1977, he talked about cheilectomy, akin, exostosectomie, bunionette and metatarsalgia. A shame, I was too lazy, too confident to go outside the limits of my society. I would have start percutaneous surgery 10 years earlier!
I remembered Patrick Diebold : “ Joel you don’t read enough!” he was talking about a publication of 1950 in German language!
Thank you to Samuel Barouk and Mariano de Prado. Without them, How long would it have been before orthopaedic surgeon start to use the scarf and the weil osteotomy, How long before percutaneous surgery would be part of our armamentarium?
