Perceptions and Expectations
How do you see the world? Maybe one of the most difficult questions as your perception of people, places and situations change over a period of time with experience, knowledge and opportunities. However, researches in the past have shown that our perception of the world is influenced by our expectations.
Over the past two decades, we have witnessed a great technological evolution. Technology plays a vital role in our decision making providing us with the information we need to make these decisions. While most of us are all engulfed in technology and gadgets that support them, there is little participation to interact and learn more from people and environment around. Although technology has given a quick solution to things we must know, it does not necessarily mean we are empowered by it with skills that are adequate to determine things we can do. If this is not understood well, it can always lead to a perception trap in which we can fall.
Many organisations today have people, society and environment as their key considerations when doing business. Which is absolutely right as people working with gadgets throughout the year, need to come out of it, sit together and explore as human beings how their decisions impact people, society, environment around and where they can improve more.
However, when basing expectations from existing perceptions, if challenges, participation and diversity are welcomed with critical thinking at core, there will be more grounds to think differently to reach a best solution. Empowering people around to bring more creativity, thoughtfulness and experience supported by technology and its uses, would create more positivity when shifting perceptions in right direction and assist in appropriately rationalising the expectations set.
