I live in Florida. We were affected by the recent hurricane, Ian as were those in SC and Puerto Rico and other island nations. I hurt for those who are displaced, bewildered and sorrowful.
There was a double rainbow in my neighborhood today! A sign of hope! A sign of good things and that a higher power is looking over us and understanding the pain of those who have been affected.
I took this photo outside of a drug store. It was lightly raining at the time. Notice the upper rainbow's colors are inverted. Double rainbows have arcs which are the reflections of the rainbow below. A woman standing next to me who was also gazing at the rainbow and said with exasperation "We've had enough rain!". I said "Yes, but look! There's a rainbow!" She said "Yes! a rainbow!"
In times like this one can choose to focus on the rainbow or the rain.

When I was a practice administrator we had a major flood in our office. It resulted in over $100K in damages. I could choose to look at the negative (damaged computers, flooring etc) or the positive (we get an office make-over!).
When we have perspective, we choose what to focus on. We must step back and reflect on ourselves... just like the double rainbow reflects on itself. We can choose to see the good or choose to see the bad.
This is, of course, an analogy for life and for work. When there are challenges in your workplace what do you choose to focus on? Do you self reflect on it? No matter the situation, you can always find good in it. It's not a "Poly-Anna" type of thinking when you disregard reality. Rather, it's a perspective where you take what has occurred (or is occurring) with perspective, you look for the good and reflect on it and move forward. We always must move forward, just like the hurricane victims.
