1 - Jano India: Bharat Ratna, Dr. Kalam
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam (October 15, 1931 - July 27, 2015)
Born into a middle-class Tamil family in the island town of Rameswaram, this short boy was about to shape a new India.
"Lives of great men all remind us, we can make our lives sublime, and, departing, leave behind us, footprints on the sands of time."
2 - Dekho India: What can you learn from Arjuna?
The people who visited 10 Rajaji Marg to meet Dr. Kalam were inevitably asked one last one question. "Have you met my friend Arjuna? Let me introduce you to him. He's a wonderful fellow." Then he would escort the guest to the front garden, where Arjuna stood tall and majestic.
Dr. Kalam used to say, "Arjuna lives to give and anyone who lives to give needs to be venerated."
Do you know who Arjuna is? Arjuna is the 110 years old Terminalia tree. ??
3 - Padho India: The People President
What did Dr. Kalam leave behind? 2500 books, 6 pants including 2 DRDO pants, 4 shirts including a DRDO pair, 3 suits, 1 Padmashri, 1 Padmabhushan, 1 Bharat Ratna and 50 doctrates.
No wonder, he was all about People and not possession. His true degrees were not etched on trophies or certificates, but in people's heart. A true People's President.
4 - Khelo India: Gold Quest
In 2015 Dr. Kalam visited the Techfest at IIT Mumbai. A young girl interrupted his talk, expressing a desire to shake hands with him. Dr. Kalam invited her and she jumped over the security barricades and shook hands with this amazing human being. He also made a repeat a mantra, "SMALL AIM IS A CRIME." This should be the motto of Indian Olympian and every athlete representing the nation. The GOLD QUEST is on.
Even though many people look up to him as a scientist, Dr. Kalam was very interested in soccer. He always said that scientists should play bridge and everyone else should play soccer!
Dr.Abdul Kalam who passed away while doing what he loved the most, speaking to the students and imparting knowledge to the young. #leader - VVS Laxman
5 - Naya India: The Missile Man
After leading the SLV-3 mission, which ushered India into the space age with its own launch vehicles, he became the director of Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad. Dr Kalam went on to spearhead the mission to build missiles Agni and Prithvi.
Interestingly Dr. Kalam's autobiographical book, "Wings of Fire" when translated to Hindi is 'Agni ki Udan.' This symbolically signifies launch of Agni, an Indian missile, under Missile man of India himself.
