People's Goals and Desires Change Overtime.
Long-term planning is harder than it seems because people’s goals and desires change over time.
A five-year-old boy who wants to drive a tractor when he grows up will disagree with every cell in his body if you tell him to be a lawyer.
70% of us won’t be doing work in the field that we choose while we are at the age of 18 years. Long-term planning is always difficult because in the future many aspects of life can affect our planning. After working for 5–10 years in a company, you don’t find yourself happy and peaceful, so the only way to be happy might be to leave the job. Few are enjoying their desired jobs or have got themself what they planned at young ages.
Life seems too easy and too sorted while you are in your teenage but eventually, you find out the real ugly face of life from which you cannot run or hide.
Talking about the goals and desires of people changing over time, you can see the changes in yourself as well, Growing up you liked to play with dolls or toy cars so you will start to think of starting a toy factory. Then when you grow up to become a teenager, you look back at yourself thinking how stupid you were.
I have a friend who comes from a middle-class family. From the beginning of our friendship, he always used to talk about how badly he wanted to become a Civil Engineer. He was a really hard-working guy with a clear mission and desire to become a civil engineer since we were teenagers.
It was really hard for his family to charity his studies but no matter the financial pressure, he pushed and after a long struggle, he eventually became a civil engineer. He was really happy to finally achieve what he dreamed of for a long time.
I spoke to him a couple of years ago. The conversation went like this:
ME: “How are you? How’s your career going?”

HIM: “Awful, really stressful.”
ME: “Haha...well — ”
HIM: “Really Awful”
This went on for 10 minutes. He seems as disappointed in where he is today as he was driven toward where he wanted to be 15 years ago. Eventually, he left his job being too frustrated with the working hours and stress that he had to face.
People are poor forecasters of their future selves.
Imagining a goal is easy and fun. But the road to achieving the goal is the real stress where many of us tend to change our goals toward easy fields. This has a big impact on our ability to plan for future financial goals.
In every step of life, the goals and desires of people might change according to their situation and condition. No matter how we see life everyone has to face their own problems and difficulties.
So, no matter the situation, no matter if you were able or unable to achieve your goals and desires, always try to be happy with what you have because most people are only dreaming of having a life like you. Be grateful for what you have and always see the positive picture in every situation.
