People’s Crazy Sense of Entitlement

Two recent events inspired this month’s LinkedIn article. First, I’ll go over the two events that I feel reveal a crazy sense of entitlement. In the next part of the article, I will cover human entitlements. Let’s go…
First Event
Everyone on LinkedIn has gotten those dreaded pitches in their inbox. It’s best to ignore them. However, a recent one was a perfect example of crazy entitlement. I shared the following in a Substack’s Facebook group.
BAD MARKETING 101
Some stranger messaged me yesterday on LinkedIn for Substack support. He’s writing a book and wants to be widely read. Ah, don’t we all? Then he describes his Substack’s topics. How he wants me to subscribe and think about recommending it. And a paid subscription would motivate him to continue writing and grow his publication. My reaction was to crack up with laughter.? I checked out his Substack and noticed how he has been writing it for less than a month. This has scammer and/or desperation written all over it!
There is nothing wrong with the desire to have your writing read worldwide and earn a living from it. However, there are better ways to market. It’s important to know who your audience is. And if you’re going to contact another author and Substack writer, then research them and/or subscribe to their free work. If he had approached me with I see you write the column Attitude of Cattitude or the Ponderings from Pamela newsletter and asked for advice, then I would have taken him seriously and would have responded to his message.
Second Event
This event happened to my husband at a gas station. FYI, gas stations in the South (USA) usually have a convenience store to buy food, chips, candy, coffee, soda, and more. Here’s his story:
A vagrant approached my husband at a gas pump and asked him for money to buy a sandwich. Because he’s an awesome man, he said, “Okay, let’s go inside, and I’ll buy you a sandwich.”
The vagrant told him, “No, I don’t like their food.” He pointed to the sandwich shop a little further down the road, “I want a sandwich from there.”
My husband replied, “I’m not going there. But I’ll buy you anything you want here.”
The vagrant cursed my husband out and walked away!
It seems beggars can be choosey!
I thought the vagrant might have wanted the money for booze or drugs. My sister wondered if someone had banned him from the gas station for his begging. Who knows, but what a story!

Human Entitlements
The two above examples were what I consider selfish entitlements. However, there are positive entitlements, which I feel are our basic rights. I realize the following can be more difficult for some people depending on where they live and their circumstances. However, you are entitled to the ten following things as long as you don’t intentionally hurt others.
1.?????? Answer the question, “Who am I?”
2.?????? Begin the journey of self-love.
3.?????? Feel the love from another.
4.?????? Choose a love partner.
5.?????? Work towards a better life.
6.?????? Find a solution to go through an obstacle.
7.?????? Acknowledge and feel your emotions.
8.?????? Have a relationship with a Higher Source.
9.?????? Trust and act on your intuition.
10.?? Accelerate your personal and spiritual growth.
Can you think of more things for human entitlements? What stories do you have about people’s crazy sense of entitlement?

6 个月Entitlement can definitely lead to some interesting (and sometimes frustrating) situations! It’s amazing how some people just expect everything to be handed to them without any effort. I’ve heard stories about folks demanding special treatment in the most absurd ways—like someone insisting on being served first because they “deserve” it, or expecting major favors from strangers.
