PEOPLE&PLANET: Newsletter #19 English
Hello!
We’re excited to open the doors to a new edition of PEOPLE&PLANET, showcasing not only the celebrations of the ACCIONA team but also a crucial warning: the West needs to accelerate the decarbonization of the economy to meet the planet’s needs. We’re up against challenges, but equipped with solutions.
Let’s get started!
JOSé MANUEL ENTRECANALES: “IT IS WORRYING THAT THE US AND EUROPE ONLY INSTALL 20% OF THE WORLD’S NEW RENEWABLE CAPACITYâ€
Our Chairman and CEO, José Manuel Entrecanales, shared these thought-provoking insights at the 14th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) this April. He advocates for a surge in business activism to influence both the private sector and public administration, reminding us that designing a better planet is a collective effort.
Entrecanales also highlighted that “We tend to forget that the overwhelming element that moves private capital is the risk-reward equation.†Read his full speech here.
ACCIONA, FERROVIAL AND SACYR WIN €3.13 BILLION RING ROAD PROJECT IN LIMA (PERU)
From a climate action message, we move on to good news in the form of an award for our ACCIONA team. We will build and manage a 30-year concession for a new 34.8-kilometer urban toll road in the metropolitan area of the Peruvian capital.
The highway will incorporate the most advanced technology for traffic management, implementing the use of cameras and other systems for its supervision, with a rapid response model for all types of incidents. Discover the positive impact on the people of Lima.
ACCIONA ENERGÃA EXTENDS SIERRA BRAVA FLOATING SOLAR PLANT IN SPAIN
Our floating solar plant in Sierra Brava, Spain, is expanding to continue testing new flotation technologies. Our team of specialists has added a module consisting of a 2-millimeter-thick reinforced hydro-elastic membrane technology. Its mooring and anchoring system provides greater flexibility and resistance to strong waves and wind, allowing it to be used in reservoirs and the sea.
ACCIONA CONSORTIUM, PREFERRED PROPONENT IN THE SURREY LANGLEY SKYTRAIN STATIONS CONTRACT IN VANCOUVER, CANADA
When you think of Canada, what comes to mind? For us, it’s cities perfectly adapted to sustainable and electric mobility (certainly, that’s our goal). And since we don’t just dream but act, we bring those dreams to life.
In April, we received the great news that we have been selected as the preferred proponent to design and build eight new passenger stations, nine substations, three bus interchanges, and 250 meters of track for the Surrey Langley SkyTrain project in Vancouver. Read more about this project here.
ACCIONA, SPAIN’S NATIONAL HERITAGE AGENCY AND PHOTOESPA?A JOIN FORCES TO PROMOTE PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY ACROSS ROYAL SITES’ NATURAL HERITAGE
Nature captured by top photographers. This April has also brought us very good news from the cultural and artistic front. We are strengthening our connection with regular partners like PHotoESPA?A and Spain’s National Heritage to promote the Fieldnotes (Cuadernos de campo) photographic project in Spain.
This initiative will allow, for the next three years, major photographers to capture, through artistic photographs, the natural heritage found at the most emblematic places of Spain’s National Heritage. Prepare your phone’s gallery because you will have a good load of memorable photographs.
THE MUSEOLOGY SECTOR CLAIMS ITS ROLE AS A DRIVER OF CULTURE, ECONOMIC GROWTH, AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
The ‘NEXT IN’ forum organized by ACCIONA Cultura in Madrid convened global experts to discuss the present and the future of museums, and their impact on society.
At the forum’s opening, our Chairman and CEO, José Manuel Entrecanales, emphasized the crucial role of culture in fostering a sustainable and thriving society.
