Are People Yawning When They Think About Your Coaching?

Are People Yawning When They Think About Your Coaching?

“It’s all about the experience…”

This is something I tell myself all the time.

Why?

Because the success of your coaching business ultimately boils down to the experience.

Whether you realize it or not, the common thread of why you enjoy the things you do is directly tied to the experience you’re having.

Whether it’s visiting your favorite vacation spot, reading a great book, watching a funny movie, or eating at your favorite restaurant.

So what’s this got to do with your coaching?

When clients come to you for coaching the ONE thing that will get them to hire you, stick with you for the long term, and refer you to others is the experience.

If you provide a great experience, people will hire you, refer you and be excited to tell the world about your coaching.

In other words, they’ll give you the best free promotion you could ever hope for.

But if you don’t provide a memorable experience, you run the risk of making clients feel bored, or dare I say “yawn” at the thought of your coaching…

…and this is something you want to avoid at all costs.

So the next question becomes, “How does a coach provide an incredible experience for prospects and clients?”

Here’s how...

#1: How you present your coaching

Before someone becomes a client you’ve got to present your coaching the right way.

What gets clients excited about your coaching is if you present your coaching as a direct solution to their problem or challenge.

For example, if someone really wants to overcome a fear of public speaking, you might say…

“My coaching is specifically designed for people that want to speak in front of others, but for a number of reasons can’t find the courage, or get very nervous in public speaking situations. So what I do is take you through a number of fun but essential exercises to work through the fear step-by-step, then we slowly get you to the point of saying whatever’s on your mind to a crowd of any size without any fear of rejection or messing up.”

This is just an example, but for someone that has been scared of public speaking this might sound like the best thing they’ve ever heard!

You’re speaking directly to their challenge, and giving them a vision for how things can be in the future — and people love to get excited about the future.

On the other hand, if you instead focused on your accolades and all the education you have instead of speaking about their challenges, that’s the kind of thing that might make people yawn.

When this happens, people tend not to return phone calls, emails, or want to reach out again.

So be sure to speak directly to your prospects’ challenges because this provides a positive and memorable experience for prospects.

#2: How you conduct your coaching sessions

Clients can feel everything when it comes to your coaching.

That includes the environment, how organized you are and how excited you seem about helping them solve their issue.

You’ll need to make sure the physical environment is pleasant and comfortable. Whether you meet them at their home, your office or over the phone, you’ll want to be as in control of the environment as possible because any negative distractions will take away from the coaching experience.

Next, your organization skills are important. You’ll want to have predetermined steps to take in every coaching session, even if you go into spontaneous directions from time to time.? If you’re organized and keep the coaching engaging, your clients are much more likely to want to meet again for another session.

Just think about the difference between a really boring school course, and a course that’s so fun and engaging that you lose track of time…

…that’s the feeling you’re aiming for during your coaching sessions.

Lastly, you need to have real enthusiasm for your clients and willingness to help them succeed.? If you don’t show excitement for their improvement, it’ll be more difficult for them to be excited about your coaching.??

This is actually a concept most people can use in their everyday life and I highly encourage you to use it in all your coaching sessions to create positive experiences for clients.

#3: How you follow up and build the relationship

There are a number of ways to provide memorable and even exciting follow ups to your coaching.

Easy examples are giving a birthday phone call, sending a nice card or nice gift over the holidays. These are small gestures that go a long way and will keep you at the top of mind with your clients and prospects.

Another more automated way of creating great follow up experiences is through social media or email marketing that’s engaging. This is something I love to do because it allows me to interact with past, present, and future clients in a way that gives value and allows me to reach more people with my best content.

People love great content because it can be very empowering, uplifting, and even entertaining.

Remember, experiences are what make us remember things, and want to tell stories to our friends.

If you can give your clients an incredible experience from start to finish with your coaching, they’ll remember you, brag about you … and they definitely won’t yawn at the thought of your coaching ;)

Until next time!

With all the love in my heart,

Christian

This is so true! I make sure I'm totally geared up for each session as that builds my client's confidence that I'm truly there for them. They are the only person in my world at that moment and my supporting them in resolving their issues is huge in ensuring they will be on the next call, and the next call, and the next call. Great advice Christian!
