People Worth Meeting - a Mentor, a Photographer, an Hotel Owner, a Businessman who lost his daughter and a Change Maker; The Coffee at Eleven Show

And so, Lockdown is extended! Ireland reopens in a phased way between now and August 10th How are you doing? I hope well...

I made a commitment that we would run The Coffee at Eleven Show, daily - weekdays, until Lockdown was lifted - looks like we have a date now - August 10th 2020, that's 98 days from date of writing, 14 weeks, 70 weekdays, 70 shows, 70 more 'People Worth Meeting!"

We had another busy week on #Coffeeat11

Born out of COVID, 'The Coffee at Eleven Show' is where Yours Truly has a cup of coffee virtually with People Worth Meeting LIVE at 11am in a secure 'Zoom Cafe' where other guests sit around and listen in, and then get involved with Q&A towards the end.

It's been fascinating!

We met some really cool people from various walks; a Mentor, a Photographer, an Hotel Owner, a Businessman Who Lost His Daughter and a Change Maker.

The People Worth Meeting on 'The Coffee at Eleven Show' - Corona Lockdown Week 5 - were:

  • Monday: The Mentor, "Be On Purpose!" Amanda Delaney pulls no punches as she regales the live virtual Coffee@11 audience
  • Tuesday: The Photographer, “I don’t have to, I get to!” Ciara McCullough’s 'tough days mantra' as she ran the Wild Atlantic Way
  • Wednesday: The Hotel Owner, “Don’t stress about what you can’t control and try to get some structure" Daphne Greene, Greenhills 4 Star Hotel
  • Thursday: The Businessman who lost his daughter, “Too Dear To Visit” Brendan Ring talks of losing his daughter, and setting up Cliona's Foundation
  • Friday: The Change Maker, “Feel all the feelings; feelings buried alive never die.” Mia Sera Williams, Founder, The Mia Method

As before, each guest brought a completely different vibe and perspective to our being in Lockdown, reflecting not only on their businesses before, during and after COVID, but increasingly on the unexpected positives appearing in the totality of their lives by being forced, to stop.

Towards the end of each interview - before we went to LIVE Q&A from the floor - I asked each of them for the one tip they would offer their nearest and dearest in terms of coping with COVID; this is what each said.

To find out what each guest's 'Coping with COVID No. 1 Tip' is, stick on the kettle, grab a coffee, pull up a comfy chair, gift yourself ten minutes of YOU time and watch the 'Top Tips' video (highly recommended) , listen to the Top Tips Podcast (recommended) or read on below... then pick your favorite and watch the full interview (Top Tip Podcast and/or Full Interview links below each guest's intro)

Top Tips (and short intros) In Their Own Words

Monday: "Be On Purpose!" Amanda Delaney pulls no punches as she regales the live virtual Coffee@11 audience

Well, knew it would be fun.

I expected it would be rich with information and motivation.

But I was blown away by what happened when Amanda Delaney joined me as my Spcial Guest in the Zoom Cafe on The Coffee at Eleven Show on Monday.

"Be On Purpose!" Amanda Delaney pulls no punches as she regales the live virtual Coffee@11 audience with story after story of growth and challenge...

If you didn't manage to make it to the cafe live, make sure you do yourself a favour and stick on the kettle, grab a coffee, a notepad and pen, pull up a comfy chair - fasten your seatbelt! and think with Amanda Delaney as she has #CoffeewithColm #Coffeeat11

Tuesday: “I don’t have to, I get to!” Ciara McCullough’s 'tough days mantra' as she ran the Wild Atlantic Way

“I don’t have to, I get to!” was Ciara McCullough’s mantra on the days it got tough as she ran the Wild Atlantic Way.

In preparation for that mammoth feat she said, “I worked on my head first, the feet came second.”

And then, having run 1,000km (one thousand, #notatypo) and raising €40k for The Children’s Grief Centre she had the audacity to suggest, “I’m not a runner!”

Ladies and gentlemen, what a pleasure it was meeting Ciara McCullough on The Coffee at Eleven Show on Tuesday!

Do yourself a favor, stick on the kettle, grab a coffee and a notepad, pull up a comfy chair and think along as Yours Truly has #CoffeewithCiara.

I promise you will be glad you did…

Ps. This was Ciara’s second outing on the show, the first one having been horribly Zoom-bombed and cancelled. I think the fact that she had no hesitation in resuming the Special Guest seat after such an awful experience, tells as much about the measure of this amazing woman, as all the fascinating insights she shared over Coffee with Colm in front of a LIVE virtual audience.

Thursday: “Too Dear To Visit” Brendan Ring talks of losing his daughter, and setting up Cliona's Foundation

“Too Dear To Visit” is the heart-breaking title of a ‘white paper’ commissioned by Brendan Ring, CEO and co-founder of Cliona’s Foundation.

Cliona died in 1998, aged just fifteen, of an inoperable brain tumour diagnosed when she was seven. Brendan and his wife Terry, despite their unimaginable grief, decided to honour her way too short life by setting up Cliona’s Foundation to help families that have children with life-limiting illness, by providing unconditional funds to assist with non-medical expenses. Cliona’s Foundation was born out of their pain and of their direct experience of the fiscal costs traveling to and from hospital, for petrol, food, overnight expenses, to name but a few. “Having a sick child adds €10,000 to €12,000 per annum over and above regular household expense.” said Brendan. “That, and having to take time off work, unpaid for many, makes a child, effectively ‘too dear to visit!”

Ladies and gentlemen, it was my pleasure chatting with Brendan Ring on The Coffee at Eleven Show on Thursday because, despite the poignant story above Brendan shared an amazing vision for both Cliona’s Foundation and the business of which he is Managing Director, CUBE, a leading supplier of design, print and packaging solutions in Ireland

And we had some laughs along the way too… wait until you hear about his singing! Stick on the kettle, grab a coffee and a notepad, pull up a comfy chair and think along as Yours Truly has #CoffeewithBrendan. I promise you will be glad you did… #CoffeewithColm #Coffeeat11
