People Worth Meeting – The Matchmaker, The Professional Speaker, An Irishman in Scotland, The Explorer and The Restaurateur - on Coffee at 11
So.
We are into the second half.
Having happily committed to hosting a live chat over a cup of coffee with a guest each weekday while COVID lasted, (truthfully thinking we'd be out of it in about three weeks!) we have now entered the final 50 shows - Series 1 of The Coffee at Eleven Show will run weekdays at 11 LIVE until and including Friday 7th August. Ireland Inc. goes back to work on Monday 10th and we will have done our job - keeping people connected through the stories of People Worth Meeting, over Coffee at Eleven.
Another fascinating week on The Coffee at Eleven Show, saw us chatting with more 'People Worth Meeting' in front of a LIVE, growing and international audience.
It's been fascinating! And great fun!
This week we met The Matchmaker, The Professional Speaker, An Irishman in Scotland, The Explorer and The Restaurateur.
- Monday: Episode 51, The Matchmaker, “Never Second Guess a Light-bulb Moment” ~ Jennifer Haskins told the Coffee at 11 show.
- Tuesday: Episode 52, The Professional Speaker, “Small Keys Can Open Big Doors.” Gerry Duffy told the Coffee at 11 audience.
- Wednesday: Episode 53, An Irishman in Scotland. "Treasure The Stolen Moments. Treasure Them, Pocket Them." Donogh O'Brien.

- Friday: Episode 55, The Restaurateur, “It’s one thing shutting down an economy, the trick now is to reopen it!” Padraic Frawley.
Per usual, each guest brought a completely different vibe and perspective to the cafe, reflecting not only on their businesses before, during and after COVID, but increasingly as has come to be expected, them reflecting on the unexpected positives appearing in the totality of their lives by being forced to stop.
Towards the end of each chat- before we went to LIVE Q&A from the floor - I asked each of them for the one tip they would offer their nearest and dearest in terms of coping with COVID; below is what each said.

People Worth Meeting – Donogh O’Brien – The Coffee at Eleven Show REPLAY
"Treasure The Stolen Moments. Treasure Them, Pocket Them." Donogh O'Brien Irishman in Scotland
Donogh O’Brien, an Irishman anchored in Scotland and founder of Aspen People. Donogh O’Brien and Aspen People are very much the same thing. Purpose driven; family values underpinned by being Irish! Donogh says he “enjoyed the safety net of a great upbringing went to University far enough to live away from home but close enough to get the washing done when needed Played lots of sport, started in accountancy, didn’t have the personality for it so stumbled into recruitment” before basing his company in the city of Glasgow. Aspen People has become a ‘go to’ in executive search in Scotland and has prevailed through post banking Austerity. Sometimes Aspen competes in the industry as ‘the underdog’ which as Donogh says: Being Irish, can help overcome the odds…. Fair to say the café goers left having been both educated and entertained. “It’s one thing shutting down an economy, the trick now is to reopen it!” Padraic Frawley told the Coffee at 11 audience.
The café was full today with guests in from Scandinavia, the USA, the UK, and every corner of Ireland to hear a serial entrepreneur tell how he went from a farming upbringing in West Limerick to a €25m international restaurant/bar empire Padraic started his entrepreneurial journey in 1999 with an idea around serving locally sourced food and great drinks with passion! It worked! Cornstore Restaurants in both Cork and Limerick boomed almost from the get-go. Coqbull Restaurants followed suit. In recent years, a move to London saw Padraic establish the East London Pub Company. Today, his ‘idea’ is brought to life daily across multiple brands and concepts, in multiple locations by a dedicated staff of almost 400! And he expects to be back in full swing in the coming months.
