People won’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
I often reflect on the nuances of coaching and what truly makes a difference in people’s experiences in the services industry and specifically in Personal Training. Every day, I see coaches working with their clients, exchanging ideas, and developing strong relationships. But this hasn’t always been the case.?
Sometimes, I observe new coaches investing countless hours displaying and showcasing how much they know, often looking to build trust and rapport. Despite their best intentions, they usually focus too much on delivering knowledge that their clients feel overwhelmed and disconnected.
So, What is the secret of building genuine connections??
It all comes down to prioritizing the softer human side of coaching, where showing empathy and understanding is commonly overlooked over the technical side of coaching that can lead to others feeling unheard and undervalued.?
Even if someone is receptive, It’s not until people feel cared for that they become much more open to receiving the information and guidance others provide. Nothing like feeling cared for and understood to fuel someone’s engagement and motivation. I always teach new coaches how to recognize this and shift to a more compassionate approach to enhance the overall experience and set them up for success.
Remember, people won’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. This approach can make all the difference and has been my approach when it comes to client-based care.
Have you experienced a moment where empathy transformed a professional relationship?
