"People who feel appreciated will always do more than is expected"?

"People who feel appreciated will always do more than is expected"

So often in our working life, we look at the people at the "top" and see a Boss.

Have you got a Boss or a Leader? What even is the difference?

Well, your “Boss” is that unapproachable person in charge who dictates and expects more than you’re paid for little or no return. The "Boss" expects things to happen without constructive dialogue and pushes rather than directing.

A Leader has an open door. Doesn’t wait for you to explain what’s going on in your life they come and ask. They are interested in what matters to you personally.

Leaders ask questions and opinions about situations that involve you and that affects you, taking into account the impact and acting accordingly in your interest.

If you have a “Boss” you will often find that they do most of the talking asking very few questions yet expecting action.

Your “Boss” has people in the company they get on with more and show more interest in. Your leader doesn’t need to be your friend to care about you.  Your leader cares that you feel part of their thinking and that you know your well being is important to them.

If you have a Boss you will hear statements like “I’ve done your job”, “I’ve earned not to have to do that anymore”.

If you really have a true leader you will be asked questions about your challenges and be given direction and support on how to succeed.

How many times have you seen your “Boss”  point and direct? Or do you have a leader who instead got stuck in and has been inspirational?

If you are the person responsible in your business where do you sit with this? Are you comfortable with how you manage or lead?

Investing time, understanding, empathy, motivation and true leadership will give you happier more appreciated employees that will want to go that extra mile for you and the company.

Think about how you felt the first time an employer looked at you and said thank you.

Think about how important it was to you when your employer took an interest in your family and what’s going on in your life. It felt good, didn’t it?

Having people who get up in the morning and are happy to come into work and want to do their best for YOU is all in your hands.

Be a Leader

Tag your Leader now and show them some appreciation.

Reward in kind, gifts, love, appreciation, a pat on the back or in cash - immediately after your achievement will act as a wonderful motivational force.
