Are people still landing fully remote jobs in 2024? The answer is…

Yes, people are still landing fully remote jobs in 2024. I have real examples of different career coaching clients who worked with me recently and landed fully remote jobs.

But, of course, I know that the landscape of remote work has changed, and landing a remote job now is not as easy as it was before, especially during the pandemic.

I like to keep things real, so when you consider landing a fully remote job, it’s important to understand that:

There is a massive competition for remote positions, because more and more professionals realize that it’s possible to have flexibility and still develop their careers at the same time.

Some companies have indeed transitioned back to in-office work, either partially or fully, due to various reasons. They might justify it as “company culture”, “collaboration needs”, or “management preferences”, but the fact is: those companies never fully embraced remote work, they accepted it temporarily, when there was no other option (like during the peak of the pandemic), so now, instead of making the adjustments to consolidate a flexible work environment, they choose to go back to the “old” way.

Massive layoffs happened in different remote companies recently, which might bring more instability and uncertainty to the remote job market. More than once I heard professionals sharing that “landing a remote job doesn’t seem very stable now”, so they feel reluctant to put in the time and energy to make a career change.

Despite all the real challenges listed above, individuals are still securing fully remote jobs in a variety of industries.

I say that because my career coaching clients are landing fully remote jobs every month, and I also have a strong network with other career coaches and recruiters, and they share real examples from their side too. These positions are normally found in companies that have embraced remote work as a long-term strategy or in industries that naturally lend themselves to remote work arrangements, such as technology, digital marketing, consulting, and freelancing.

While the job market for remote positions is much more competitive than before, and there may be fluctuations in remote work opportunities, professionals who actively seek out remote positions, demonstrate relevant skills and experience, and effectively communicate their ability to thrive in a remote environment can still successfully land fully remote jobs in 2024.

I like to say that, before giving up and assuming that “it’s impossible to start my remote career”, you should try everything that is available.

My suggestion is not doing it in a random and casual way, because the chances that it actually works are relatively small. Instead, go for a methodology that has been previously tested – ideally several times – so you know it works and that there is an effective process behind, so your chances to achieve the results you want are much higher.
