Hi Lisa! Let’s start from the very beginning. Would you like to give us a quick introduction on who you are and what your role at Statista is?

Sure! My name is Lisa and I work at Statista as the Head of Accounting. I am responsible for the timely preparation of the monthly financial statements for all 10 Statista companies worldwide. We report these statements to our shareholder, Str?er, through a fast close process. My focus is on developing our processes to continually improve the quality and efficiency of our work. This goal is shared across all finance departments, which is why we closely collaborate with Controlling and Tax.

How would you explain your job to a child?

Imagine there are lots of numbers in a company that look like puzzle pieces. The accounting team collects these pieces, shapes them correctly, and assembles them to create a big picture. As the Head of Accounting, I act like a number detective, ensuring all pieces are in the right place and that the puzzle is complete. I also make sure the puzzle is finished on time and that any challenges are identified and solved early.

Why did you join Statista?

During my studies, I focused on accounting and taxes. After completing my master's degree, I worked in consulting and auditing for almost six years and passed the certified tax advisor exam. However, I realized my future wasn't in this sector, so I looked for a new challenge. I discovered Statista and the Head of Accounting vacancy, which sounded challenging, varied, and exciting. Without hesitation, I signed up and started at Statista on December 1, 2022. I'm still very happy with my decision today.

Tell us something about your team.

We are a 16-person team that combines expertise, team spirit, and a passion for numbers. Each team member brings unique skills, forming a solid foundation for our work. We're not just accounting experts but also creative problem solvers who always strive for innovative solutions. Our team spirit and collaboration help us overcome complex challenges while fostering an inspiring work environment. We also have a lot of fun together, which is important for reducing stress and increasing motivation.

What was your most exciting moment at Statista?

At Statista, every interaction is unique and fascinating. For me, it's very exciting and satisfying to help someone have an "aha!" moment or engage in interesting conversations that expand our understanding together. It's like unlocking the puzzle together.

What’s some advice you would give your younger self?

I would advise my younger self to see mistakes as opportunities to learn and grow. It's normal to make mistakes, and no path is straightforward. Always striving for perfection will drain too much energy and leave you dissatisfied. It's important to understand and accept this. Focus more on self-care and mental well-being. To remain productive in the long term, you need to find balance in your free time—take care of yourself by eating well, getting enough sleep, and staying active. Learn to prioritize and to say no.
