People in recovery
One of my favorite people in recovery, author Anne Lamott, had this to say about how she got sober: “Mainly it was by calling someone and having them say why don’t you come over and talk.” In actuality, the pivotal person was a father figure who had gotten sober and held meetings at his house so that she was always being exposed to the tenets of the 12 steps and snack cakes and bad coffee. What’s important in recovery, treatment, or even when using, is to know who to call when you need a helping hand. Who will respond? Think about it and make a note you keep close to your heart.
