Whenever we talk about #HR #Policies the words of Charles Bronson, MD & Atlantic come to my mind, he stated " I only have to take care of my employees, and my employees will take care of my customers and business in return." In my opinion, these words are the crux for any organization to succeed.
When an organization is incorporated, there must be a clear understanding among all, including the promoters, that its success depends upon the #employees they hire. The #Happier the #employee, is his/her output and larger the profits. Hence, we must understand that no organization can develop upon the dead bodies of its work force. This is the exact coordinate where HR must chip in.
If everyone recollects the terrorist attacks on 26/11 at Hotel Taj Mumbai, the answer to what actually motivated the staffers not to leave the hotel, but to take care of the guests is not a mystery any more. It is all attributed to the #HR #Policies of the TATA group. The employees of Taj Hotel were so motivated during that #stress period that they put duty above self on that day, just like our armed forces.
It must be recognized by all, that the first #HR #policy which was formulated by the TATA group was adopted by the Government of India in the year 1950, but still, till date they are unable to follow it scrupulously. The situation is such that all major firms and Government Institutions have a department called #HR but their main duty is condensed to disbursement of salary, managing postings, and awarding penalties.
We need to further accept that the employees who work for these organizations are not motivated by money or position, they are also not slaves who will sacrifice themselves for their masters, they are intelligent beings who will be motivated by appreciation.
This is where the role of #HR #people and #management, #supervisors are accurately defined. The management should take a serious note on the lines that even the five fingers of one's hand, are not of the same size. We must take due #cognizance the issue and while #evaluating the #performance of a particular employee #due #diligence must be adhered to.
It has also been seen, that in many a case, while evaluating the #performance, the management and/or supervisors become and fail to #appreciate the #staff/employee #generously, which leads to #aversion towards their job amongst employees and in extreme cases may lead to #depression and #naturalization towards #corporate #goals. the #profitability of the #organization. Sometimes these employees may tend to leave the organization citing better #opportunities, which laterally affects the #teamwork and organizational #discipline.
The HR and Management Supervisors must note, that "#Retaining a #skilled employee is far more 3cost #effective than #hiring new ones” and employees can be retained only with affection and timely #appreciation. Some might argue that hiring new skilled labor is far more cost effective for the company than retaining old ones, I don’t disagree but neither do I agree. For them I have a small story to tell, "Once a large shipping company built a dream liner cruise ship, it was built with state of the art technology with plush interiors, but the engines won't start, the Promoters called up a meeting and asked their engineers to check the problem. When everyone failed to fix the problem, they then hired an old worker who was generally seen working on the dock. Workman sent his bills to the HR department amounting $1000000. The learned HR People and management executives inquired about the hefty charge because according to them he didn't do much. To this the old man replied $200 for hammering and $999800 for knowing the place where to hammer." Hence the moral of the story "#Skilled should be pampered".
Finally, I wish to add that while evaluating the individual #performances we should keep in mind that all people have different #skills and needs which should be emotionally ascertained. I also #believe that #leaders should be like our cricket Captain M S Dhoni, when the team loses, he is first to take the blame but when his team wins he's seen playing with his daughter. A fascinating sight to behold, indeed.
Victory is on the team and its members, while loss is of the leader only. With this, I wish to end my statement and request all the HR people to strengthen the team work and #management #evaluation #system.
